WWE Hell in a Cell: SmackDown Women’s Championship Main Event

SmackDown Women’s Championship Hell in a Cell Match: Bayley (c) vs. Sasha Banks

It should be clear as day to anyone and everyone that the rightful main event of WWE Hell in a Cell is the SmackDown Women’s Championship clash between Bayley and Sasha Banks. Even with the surprisingly enthralling competition of Roman Reigns and Jey Uso, Sasha Banks and Bayley still have the hottest rivalry in WWE today.

While the seeds for this match might only seem to have been set when Bayley recently turned on Sasha Banks during an episode of SmackDown, the roots for these two go back over five years to the original NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn in 2015. That night they weren’t the main event, but they stole the show and delivered a Match of the Year candidate that is still talked about to this day.

Now, five years later, the roles are reversed and we’re looking at a very different Bayley and a very different Sasha Banks. That night, “The Boss” Sasha Banks was the reigning NXT Women’s Champion, and Bayley was looking for her first taste of championship gold.

At WWE Hell in a Cell, we’ve got SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley who will walk into the night having been champion for a monumental 380 days. By comparison, all five of Sasha Banks’ reigns as WWE Raw Women’s Champion and her reign as NXT Women’s Champion only combine for a total of 297 days.

Sasha Banks and Bayley are poised and ready to tear into each other inside Hell in a Cell, and it’s a match that is sure to steal the show. It’ll be Bayley’s first taste of the structure, but Banks is practically a veteran of Hell in a Cell after her matches with Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch, and that edge just might be enough to see her walk out as the new champion.
