AEW: KENTA should be the man who attacked Jon Moxley
Jon Moxley has a lot of enemies, but it should be revealed to be KENTA as the one who laid him out backstage at Wednesday’s edition of AEW Dynamite.
The action on Wednesdays continue to pick up each week. This week on AEW Dynamite there was a segment that featured both joy and pain for AEW champion, Jon Moxley. One moment, he slipped in news about his wife being with child. Then the next, he was laid out backstage without any sign on who attacked. Speculation is going to run wild about who is the attacker, but the answer should be simple; the man in Japan holding a red briefcase known simply as KENTA.
Kenta is in New Japan Pro Wrestling with a briefcase that guarantees him a shot at the NJPW United States title. Who is the individual holding that title? The only and only, Jon Moxley. Thanks to COVID-19, Moxley’s reign as a double-champion is not as lauded as it would be if he were able to travel back and forth between both promotions.
It is hard to see a world in which Moxley would not have done his best to defend both belts to some extent, even participating in the G1 Climax this year if it were possible. AEW has shown that they are willing to partner with other organizations in professional wrestling. The NWA World Women’s championship has been featured heavily across AEW television in recent months. Hiroshi Tanahashi recently appeared on AEW television via video to congratulate Chris Jericho during his anniversary – with a highly visible NJPW flag in the background. The makings of collaboration are there and the moment it occurs would blow the roof off the wrestling scene.
KENTA is the perfect individual to kick off this partnership. New Japan is working hard to continue their development in North America. The 8th Stage of the NJPW Super J Cup is scheduled for December, entirely taking place in the United States with wrestlers that fans will know. Imagine KENTA showing up at that event, in the United States. Could he show up at an AEW event in the future?
Revealing KENTA as the attacker to not only focus on the NJPW United States title, but the AEW title at the same time would illicit massive excitement for both promotions. Plus, this is an opportunity to help get the AEW title onto Kenny Omega, while keeping Moxley in an important storyline across both organizations.
Collaboration in professional wrestling is special when it happens and is done correctly. Seeing Jon Moxley laid out backstage opens a door that will hopefully be filled with KENTA looking to cash in his briefcase for a title shot at the NJPW United States championship – kicking off a partnership with NJPW that dreams are made off. The opportunity is there, hopefully this is not just fantasy booking, but booking yet to come.
