AEW: Adam Page is the hero needed to defeat Kenny Omega
The story between Adam Page and Kenny Omega isn’t done, and anticipation is building for the moment these two men share the ring together again.
Long-term storytelling is one of the many things that are consistent about the booking in All Elite Wrestling. The creative team has done an excellent job making it a point to call back to all sorts of random tidbits to excite and pop wrestling fans each week. Right now, the booking around Kenny Omega is one of the strongest points of not only AEW but wrestling. As he continues to win and dominate, the question becomes who will be the individual to stop him. Looking at the AEW roster the perfect man to bring an end to Omega’s run is none other than Adam Page.
This is the type of story that could be told over the stretch of an entire year, as it is best not a situation that is rushed. When AEW launched back in 2019, many looked at Page as the individual that was going to be the initial face of the company. However, there was something about his character that was not translating into excitement. That energy went toward Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho, Orange Cassidy, and others. Page’s rebirth as a popular character that could transcend into the face of the promotion came when he was paired with Omega. Together they went on a tag team run that gave viewers some of the best matches imagined.
Then the split occurred. Not just the split after he and Omega lost the titles to FTR at All Out, but the entire rift with the Elite. Page was out, but it was clear that his character was still looking to the group in a longing fashion, such as what was seen when Omega and the Young Bucks stood in the ring to celebrate months later, while Page watched from the entrance tunnel. Having Omega go through Page to get to the AEW title was also a nice touch, as it gives Omega the upper hand in bragging when these two meet in the future.
Getting there is the fun part. Right now, the Elite are running all over AEW. Omega has the title. The Young Bucks are tag team champs. Their old friends Gallows and Anderson are running around with the Impact tag titles and even KENTA is there for his own personal reasons. There is not a group that seems poised to stand against them. And that is where the Dark Order comes into play.
Since losing to Omega in the title eliminator tourney, Page has been on a run of his own, while being involved in this angle with the Dark Order. It is enough to keep him out of the booking crosshairs of Omega until the time is right. When Page is then faced with the challenge of defeating Omega, it does not need to come as an immediate story of triumph, instead of having Page doubt himself because of how his split went with the Elite and losing to Omega in a straight-up singles match. The initial story is whether Page believes he has what it takes to defeat Omega, perhaps even reverting to the drinking habits of old. Over time, the Page versus Omega match is the finale, and it can be trusted that these two men will deliver the level of a match this story needs at the end.
Kenny Omega is at the top of the wrestling world. As he focuses on collecting as many belts as possible, there is one many sitting in the wings who should be the individual to finally thwart him when the time is due. Adam Page has the story waiting to be told and AEW’s track record is one that deserves the confidence that they can tell it to viewers’ delight.
