Kenny Omega responds to Andrade’s TripleMania Challenge
By Sam Gladen
Former WWE superstar Andrade made his return to Mexico on Saturday night.
AAA, the premier Lucha Libre promotion in Mexico held their Rey de Reyes show on Saturday night. The event which saw new champions crowned like a new Reina de Reinas Champion in Faby Apache who defeated Lady Shani, Lady Flammer, Chik Tormenta, Lady Maravilla, and Sexy Star II to claim the vacated belt previously held by Frankie Monet (formerly known as Taya Valkyrie). The excitement didn’t end there however as we also got an unexpected return.
Former WWE United States and NXT champion, Andrade, made an appearance on the event via satellite and announced his intentions to challenge Kenny Omega for his Mega Championship at the biggest Lucha event of the year, TripleMania. Andrade was released from the WWE in March after being underutilized for much of the second half of 2020, through 2021.
Lucha fans around the world didn’t have to wait long for a response from the champion as less than 48 hours after the challenge was issued Kenny Omega tweeted, “I’m a busy guy, give me some time to think about it.”
Interestingly that is not where Andrade’s challenges ended. He would also challenge Psycho Clown to a match at a later date. That challenge was accepted.
Before his time in the WWE Andrade was the right-hand man to his brother and leader of the international faction Los Ingobernables, Rush. He competed in CMLL under the mask and moniker of La Sombra earning titles in Mexico and Japan before signing with the WWE in 2015.
As of press time, there has been no official announcement from AAA about the date or venue of this year’s TripleMania event. The current plan is to have the event in either August or September, with fans in attendance.
