Independent Wrestling Spotlight with LGBTQ Wrestling Star Aaron Rourke
This month, I conducted a very special version of Independent Wrestling Spotlight, with arguably one of the best wrestlers around today on the independent scene. Aaron Rourke spoke about his beginning, up to where he is now. Not only is Rourke an incredible wrestler, but he is also a role model.
Aaron Rourke Talks His Beginning
“I’ve been watching it since I was younger,” said Rourke when asked about getting into wrestling. “My first memory of it, I saw Vince and Hulk Hogan as Mr. America and that just drew my attention. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t their outfits at first, but I just never saw anything like it.”
“All the characters and in-ring stuff was just crazy,” stated Rourke. “I loved Randy Orton during the ‘Legend Killer’ era. I idolized him and his charisma. RVD was like a superhero to me as well.” Little did he know at the time, what would await him in the future. “I loved it, growing up and I just wanted to do it.”
Aaron Rourke Joins Create-A-Pro Wrestling Academy
“I just walked into CAP and said I want to be a professional wrestler, and the rest is history,” says Rourke. “My first day of training was definitely terrifying. I don’t think people understand when you go from watching it to doing it, it’s a whole different beast. It’s not only physical stress but also mental stress. But, I love it and wouldn’t change a thing.”
Rourke talked about how when he first started out he wanted to have this “badass biker dude gimmick.” “I was worried about being too flamboyant in the ring because I was scared of letting people know of that side,” Rourke said. “But then I realized I need to lean in on the strength that I have and it comes naturally. Aaron Rourke views himself as the perfect specimen, and what’s more perfect than him? Nothing. What equals him, a diamond,” stated Rourke. “Also diamonds are made under pressure and Aaron Rourke thrives under pressure.”
Aaron Rourke also recalled his first singles match against one of Create-A-Pro’s best, VSK. “It was a very long match. Having that kind of a match right out the gate really set the bar for me right away.” Rourke also reminisced on his match with now AEW star, Kris Statlander. “My match with Kris meant so much to me. She was one of my first friends coming to CAP and she taught me a lot since we have very similar wrestling styles. It’s something I cherish deeply in my career.”
LGBTQ Importance
“As I got older, I wanted to set an example for people of my community,” Rourke stated. Aaron Rourke is a proud member of the LGBTQ community. “I’m openly gay, and I want to be a role model to people in my community because growing up, I didn’t have that. I want to blaze a trail, I want people to say, hey it doesn’t matter if I’m gay or trans, I can do this too.”
“I don’t want to think too highly of myself,” said Rourke. “But, if anyone does look up to me in that sort of sense, I want them to realize that they don’t have to be anyone but themselves and that you can do anything you put your mind to no matter what.”
Wresting at Chaotic
One major company that Aaron Rourke competes at is Chaotic Wrestling. “They’re really cool,” said Rourke. “Everyone here is so nice and professional, it’s just like hanging out with friends every time I go there. There are so many young and good talents that are going to take off one day from that place.”
Aaron Rourke loves showcasing his skills against all types of wrestling styles. “It’s a lot of fun wrestling the guys at Chaotic. You have to work harder to keep up and I love that,” said Rourke. “Chase Del Monte,” who Rourke wants everyone to know that he beat twice, “wrestling him has been some of my favorite matches there, he’s so good,” stated Rourke. “My recent match with Davienne was amazing as well. I really enjoy wrestling everyone there.”
What’s Next For The Diamond?
“My future goal is to always continually up my game and to just continually be the best wrestler that I can be,” stated Rourke. “I would also love to wrestle anyone that wrestles differently from me. Guys like Chris Dickinson and Brian Myers specifically too. I love a challenge and I just love wrestling,” said Rourke. “It’s perfecting my craft and being taken seriously.”
“I’m Aaron Rourke and I’m perfection personified. I’m the best for a reason.”
