Becky Lynch: Five must-see matches for the former champion
Shayna Baszler
Much like Rhea Ripely, Shayna Baszler‘s time on Monday Night Raw pales in comparison to that of NXT. When Baszler made her debut on the Raw brand, she was booked like the same dominant, no-nonsense, bad to the bone, bruiser that she was on NXT.
If you need any reference for this, feel free to look no further than the Elimination Chamber pay per view in 2020. Baszler didn’t just win, she dominated.
We move forward to WrestleMania and although she doesn’t get squashed, Lynch managed to get the win.
While Lynch dropping the title would have made sense and there seemed to be enough fans on board for Baszler as the Raw Women’s Champion, this didn’t happen and that was perfectly fine.
However, I started this entry comparing Baszler to Ripely and I’ll end it that exact same way.
Since Baszler’s loss at that year’s WrestleMania, her direction on Raw seems a bit… odd?
She just doesn’t feel like the same Shayna we loved to hate from her NXT days. Nowadays, she just feels like the Baszler we hate to feel sorry for.
Nikki A.S.H.
You know, when I was thinking about this last entry, I pondered long and hard about putting Charlotte in this spot.
Yeah, yeah. I know, I know. Feel free to crap on this idea later, but hear me out first.
The seemingly, never-ending saga of Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair might be played out like a broken vinyl, but there’s no denying that these two have great chemistry together. Great chemistry is a major key to great matches and Lynch and Flair have made magic together in the past.
After I scrapped the first idea, I thought about Io Shirai, Ember Moon, Raquel González, and the rest of the women on NXT’s roster. More importantly, how her style would mesh with each one. Then I realized that with so many names to choose from, that could be a brand new list, entirely.
All this thinking about styles & chemistry made me think of Nikki A.S.H. vs. Becky Lynch… or Becky Lynch vs. Nikki Cross, as she was known back then.
I know they’ve had several bouts against each other already, but they’ve yet to be pitted in a serious feud against one another. So, like Flair, they work well together but unlike The Queen, it’s not something that’s been done too much yet.
Becky Lynch’s return is going to be a major moment for the WWE, hopefully getting them out of the rut they’ve been in throughout the pandemic. When Lynch returns to the ring, these should be the women waiting to face off against the former champion.
