Money in the Bank 2021 was the first WWE pay-per-view on the road since the Elimination Chamber in March 2020. It was also the first pay-per-view outside of the ThunderDome in nearly a year.

For US fans, Peacock struggled mightily during the men’s MITB ladder match. It ruined all of the entrances and most of the match, unless you backed out of the app and went back in. And while many of fans called for the return of the WWE Network, it often lagged and/or froze during pay-per-views. But, this was still really bad and not a good look, especially when many fans have had negative experiences navigating the app.

There were many big moments during MITB, like Ricochet’s crowd-pleasing stunts, Kevin Owens being yeeted through a ladder, and the Usos winning the SmackDown Tag Team titles for the fifth time (and seventh time overall).

Before the main event, one of my moments was Charlotte defeating Rhea Ripley to become RAW Women’s Champion for the fifth time and fourteenth overall. There was also that moment when a frustrated Flair flipped off the crowd and the lights went out.

Here are the top three moments from Money in the Bank.

3. Nikki A.S.H. wins the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match

MITB kicked off the main show with the women’s MITB ladder match. The match was solid, but underwhelming overall. The other women piled ladders on top of Alexa Bliss to keep her from competing towards the end of the match.

Six of the women were fighting across three ladders set up in the middle ring. Nikki A.S.H. climbed over them to detach the briefcase and win the match. It was somewhat of a surprise, but makes sense as they really seem to be pushing Nikki’s new character.

2. John Cena returns to WWE

I know many will have this as their number one moment and that’s totally understandable. I will counter that with most of us knowing Cena would return at Money in the Bank as it has been rumored for a while.

During a great main event between Roman Reigns and Edge, Seth Rollins interfered not once, but twice. He cost Edge the title. It seemed like we were getting a triple threat at SummerSlam. After the match, Edge chased Rollins through the crowd. Reigns killed time in the ring by asking for a match.

The unmistakable sound of trumpets blared and the crowd went nuts. Although predictable, it was still a great moment for fans. While the Leader of the CeNation will likely face Reigns at SummerSlam, he will also make his return to RAW.

1. Big E’s historic win

Despite Peacock’s aforementioned issues, the men’s MITB ladder match was one of the best matches of the show. It had the hallmarks of classic MITB matches. It looked like KO would win the briefcase until Rollins sealed his fate.

Rollins was close to winning, but Big E had other plans. He climbed the ladder to hit The Big Ending on “SmackDown’s Savior” to get the most satisfying win of his single’s run.

This win was historic as Big E is the first Black man to win a Money in the Bank contract. Yes, you read that correctly.
