WWE SmackDown Results: Sasha Banks Returns, Cena vs. Reigns Official

This week’s SmackDown results live from the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. WWE has advertised that Roman Reigns and Finn Balor will have a contract signing to make their Universal Championship match at SummerSlam official.

Elsewhere, Rey Mysterio will go one-on-one with Jimmy Uso. Notably, the SmackDown preview on WWE.com does not appear as one of the main headlines as of 7 pm EST. Anyone accessing WWE.com would think that there wasn’t an event happening tonight. Strange.

WWE SmackDown Results July 30, 2021

SmackDown kicks off with John Cena in the house. It looks like a sold-out crowd in Minneapolis tonight. Another huge reaction for Cena. They show a video package of John Cena’s return last week on SmackDown and Reigns turning down his challenge. Cena talks about the contract signing for later tonight.

Cena says it proves his point that Roman Reigns sucks and that he is a scared little kid. Cena talks about Reigns’ reasons for rejecting his challenge and says it is stupid. Cena compares Reign’s reasons to Austin and Rock returning as different gimmicks. Cena gets the crowd fired up. He says the fans don’t believe in Roman Reigns.

He says that Roman Reigns is a lazy stooge named Joe who is afraid to fail. Cena says he would embarrass Reigns at SummerSlam. Baron Corbin then appears, walking down the entranceway. The fans immediately chant ‘you suck’ at Corbin. Cena questions who Corbin is which gets a laugh.

Corbin says he is in a bad way. Cena says he looks horrible. Corbin says his life is falling apart. Corbin says last week he sustained an injury to a “sensitive” part of his body and says he is unable to perform. Cena makes fun of it. Corbin says his wife left and took his kids with her.

Corbin says if anyone can help him then it is the charitable John Cena. Cena asks the crowd if he should help Corbin. Cena gives Corbin a small amount of money, which Corbin questions. Corbin asks Cena if he can be his stunt double.

Corbin tries to make Cena feel bad and calls him selfish. He calls him a Hollywood sell-out. Cena says he will give him something, then Cena picks Corbin up and delivers an Attitude Adjustment. Another great opening segment.

Backstage, Dominik Mysterio and Rey Mysterio talk. Dominik tells him he will keep his eye on Jey Uso tonight. Rey tells Dominik he’s made some rookie mistakes and to watch Rey tonight. The SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Uso’s make their entrance. Rey Mysterio vs. Jimmy Uso is next.

Jimmy Uso w/ Jey Uso vs. Rey Mysterio w/ Dominik Mysterio

Jimmy immediately takes control of the match, knocking Rey down. Rey delivers a head scissors, and a bulldog, before Jimmy sends Rey crashing spine first into the turnbuckle. Rey tries a dive outside of the ring, but Jimmy moves out of the way. As Rey gets up, Jimmy delivers a devastating superkick as they cut to commercial. Later in the match, Rey Mysterio picks up victory rolling up Jimmy, after Rey counters Jimmy’s counter to the 619. Dominik aided Rey by pushing him into Jimmy with his feet through the ropes as he was rolling him up for the 1-2-3.

Winner: Rey Mysterio w/ Dominik Mysterio

SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair makes her way to the ring, after clips from last week’s title match at Rolling Loud are shown prior to her entrance. Belair is celebrating surpassing 100 days as champion and will tell the WWE Universe what’s next for her.

Kayla Braxton interviews her in the ring. The fans chant “EST!”. Belair says the last few months have been amazing. She says she’s grateful for everything. Carmella interrupts and congratulates Bianca. Carmella says she should give another title match to the most beautiful woman in all of WWE.

Zelina Vega then makes her way out. Zelina says Carmella better slow her role. Zelina says what she wants to say to her she will say to her face, and then gets in the ring. Zelina thinks the WWE Universe wants to see Bianca vs. Zelina and says she’s the moment. She demands Bianca accepts her challenge.

Bianca says she’s on. Carmella then attacks Bianca from behind and both ladies beat her down in the ring. Sasha Banks music then hits and she runs down to the ring to help Bianca. It is Banks’ first appearance since WrestleMania. Banks sends Zelina and Carmella out of the ring and then hugs Bianca. A great moment. Sasha Banks is back!

Up next, Reginald defends the WWE 24/7 Championship. Reginald is interviewed by Kayla Braxton. Reginald wants to be called Reggie. Kayla asks how he feels about not knowing his opponent tonight. Reggie says he’s happy, he’s ready, and says he is constantly looking over his shoulder.

He says whoever challenges him should expect the unexpected. Reginald heads to the ring and shows off his incredible athleticism. Chad Gable and Otis, The Alpha Academy, answer the challenge. Otis takes to the mic and says “it’s not me, it’s him!”, referring to Gable, before Otis knocks Reggie down.

Reggie vs. Chad Gable w/ Otis – 24/7 Championship

Reggie shows off more of his athleticism early on before Chad Gable shows off his wrestling arsenal. Gable delivers a German from the top rope, but Reggie manages to roll out of it as he lands. The match ends as Otis interferes and throws Reggie over the top rope. Reggie wins by DQ.

Winner: Reggie retains the 24/7 title by DQ

Backstage with Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville. Deville says the main event has been signed. Bianca Belair will team up with Sasha Banks to face Carmella and Zelina Vega in a tag team match. Roman Reigns-Finn Balor Universal Championship contract signing is next.

Sonya Deville and Adam Pearce are in the ring after the commercial. Pearce says he knows how these contract signings go, and says that he and Sonya will oversee it to make sure the contract gets signed. Sonya then introduces Finn Balor. Balor receives a great ovation.

Pearce then introduces the Universal Champion, Roman Reigns. Reigns comes down to the ring with Paul Heyman. Heyman moves one of the seats in the ring to make Reigns the head of the contract signing table. We love small things like that. The fans chant for John Cena.

Reigns pulls his face and Balor laughs. Reigns says “we’ve already seen Mr. Missionary tonight!”. Reigns tries to goad Balor by saying that Cena thinks Balor is lesser than him after his promo at the start of the show. Reigns talks about Cena’s old schtick. Reigns calls Balor hungry and says he digs that about Balor.

Reigns says if Balor signs the contract he’s going to smash him and send him right back to NXT. The fans start a ‘Roman Sucks!’ chant. Reigns signs the contract. Balor says Reigns thinks highly of himself. Balor says it will be his privilege to return to NXT once again Universal Champion.

Out of nowhere, Baron Corbin attacks Finn Balor. Corbin sends Balor over the barricade outside of the ring. Corbin grabs the Universal Title contract and pulls out a pen. Cena then makes his way out and sends Corbin out of the ring.

Heyman is in shock as Cena signs the contract to a huge cheer from the WWE Universe. Roman Reigns vs. John Cena for the Universal Title at SummerSlam in three weeks is on! Reigns is seething.

Backstage, Paul Heyman interrupts Sonya and Adam Pearce. Heyman asks them what they’re going to do about SummerSlam. Heyman says it is Finn Balor’s name on the contract with John Cena’s signature. Pearce says he sees Reigns’ signature and Cena’s signature and that’s good enough for them. Reigns vs. Cena is confirmed.

Mr. Money in the Bank Big E makes his way to the ring for the next match. Could Big E cash in at SummerSlam in Vegas? Six-man tag team action time it seems. Big E, Cesaro & Nakamura vs. Ziggler, Roode, and Intercontinental Champion, Apollo Crews is next. On a side note, how refreshing is Pat McAfee on commentary? Excellent stuff from him every week.

Big E, Cesaro & King Nakamura vs. Dolph Ziggler, Robert Roode & IC Champion, Apollo Crews in a six-man tag team match

The match begins as Big E is knocked down outside of the ring as we go to a commercial. Big E tags in Cesaro as we return from commercial. Ziggler is the legal man from the opposing team. Cesaro is feeling the swing and he delivers it swinging Ziggler in the middle of the ring ten times. He then locks Ziggler in the Sharpshooter before Roode helps Ziggler get to the rope.

Later in the match, Apollo tries to roll Nakamura up, before Nakamura delivers his finisher and pins the Intercontinental Champion. An entertaining match for the short amount of time it was given.

Winners: King Nakamura, Cesaro, and Big E

We then see a recap of Edge and Seth Rollins’ confrontation from last week. Edge then makes his entrance in Minneapolis to a thunderous reception. Edge continues his entrance as we go to commercial. We return with Seth Rollins in the ring. We see a video from moments ago with Seth Rollins taking out Edge from behind, and continues an assault.

Rollins then grabs a TV camera and hits Edge in the head with it, before the referees lead Rollins away. Wow. Back in the ring, Rollins tells everyone to shut up and listen to him. He says what goes around, comes around. Rollins says he is a revolutionary. Rollins then rolls a video package when Rollins was denied a title opportunity, and it was presented to Edge instead.

We return with the fans booing. Rollins says he is proud of what he did to Edge. The fans start chanting ‘We Want Becky!”. Rollins says if he can’t be Universal Champion, then neither can Edge. He then throws the mic down and leaves the ring.

Up next, Sasha Banks teams with SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair to face Carmella and Zelina Vega. A video is shown previewing RAW on Monday with Goldberg returning to continue his feud with Bobby Lashley.

Next Friday, it will be Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin in Tampa Bay on SmackDown. Carmella and Zelina Vega are already in the ring. Whatever happened to Liv Morgan, who was getting over with the fans just a few weeks ago?

SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks vs. Carmella and Zelina Vega

Belair and Carmella start, before Bianca tags Sasha in to double team “The Most Beautiful Woman In All of WWE”. Carmella tags in Zelina as they try and double team Sasha, but both ladies send Zelina and Carmella outside of the ring. Bianca uses her strength to lift Sasha above her head and throws her towards Vega and Carmella to take them down. Incredible.

Later in the match, Sasha Banks delivers a backstabber and then the Bank Statement on Carmella. Carmella taps out giving her and Belair the victory. They both dance after the win in the ring. As they dance, Sasha then delivers a backstabber to Belair and then begins to attack her!

She then holds up the SmackDown Women’s Championship. She then continues her attack planting Belair with a tornado DDT and then into the Bank Statement. Sasha had us all fooled as she once again holds the SmackDown Women’s title above her head. She then puts Belair back into the Bank Statement as the show ends.

Winners: Sasha Banks and SmackDown Women’s Champion, Bianca Belair
