WWE SummerSlam 2021 Rapid Fire Match Card Predictions

Sheamus (c) vs. Damian Priest [United States Title]

When Sheamus won the U.S. Title at WrestleMania 37, it was expected that he would use his veteran status and in-ring prowess to elevate the midcard and bring back prestige to the championship. His show-stealing matches with Riddle, Keith Lee, and Drew McIntyre would easily substantiate that expectation.

However, the complete opposite happened due to his unexpected nose fracture and unnecessary non-title open challenges. Now that Sheamus is cleared for in-ring competition, he has a second chance to turn things around against Damian Priest.

As for the winner of this match, Sheamus will win to allow Priest to develop his character some more and connect on a deeper level with the crowd before winning the gold. A solid rub would do the trick here to hinder a premature push. Priest has plenty of time on Raw to develop his character and win the U.S. Title when the time is right. Although he is a credible threat to Sheamus’ title reign at this point in time, his abrupt push after only feuding with the Miz and John Morrison does not warrant a title victory just yet.

Apollo Crews (c) vs. Cesaro [Intercontinental Title]

Many fans probably think that the IC Title Match will be a multi-man demolition derby involving midcarders, such as Big E, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Kingsuke Nakamura, and Cesaro. Since Big E won MITB, he should be focused on the Universal Title, not the IC Title. Owens and Zayn already lost many opportunities at the IC Title, so they should reunite and target the tag titles instead. Nakamura should be in the main event scene with Roman Reigns after winning that crown. The only superstar who would be Crews’ ideal opponent is Cesaro.

Cesaro will win because the IC Title has eluded him throughout his career and he needs a consolation prize after failing to dethrone Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. Cesaro could do fun open challenges with the IC Title and steal the show every week with his fancy professional wrestling skills that the fans have adored in the Cesaro Section for so many years. Meanwhile, Crews and Commander Azeez can target the tag titles. Crews always needs help to win matches, so the WWE might as well make it legal by making them a tag team.
