After a seven-year hiatus from the wrestling ring, CM Punk made his historic return by debuting on the August 20th edition of AEW Rampage at the United Center in Chicago, IL. CM Punk made it clear that there are several members of the AEW roster that he wants to compete against and former TNT Champion Darby Allin is first on his list. Aside from Darby, I chose five other superstars that I’d love to see Punk go up against.

5) Sammy Guevara

One of CM Punk’s main reasons for joining AEW was to work with younger talent and who better to square off against than “Spanish God” Sammy Guevara. Guevara, a member of the Inner Circle, serves mostly as a ‘high flyer’ so this is a mismatch for Punk. Guevara has been in AEW since February 7, 2019, and has wrestled against superstars such as Matt Hardy, Shawn Spears, MJF, and many more. Sammy being able to compete against a veteran like CM Punk could be an amazing learning experience for him.

4) Chris Jericho

We’ve seen this matchup on numerous occasions in WWE but to see it again with more experience would be even better. One rivalry that I always love to re-visit is whenever they faced off at WrestleMania XXVIII for the WWE Championship where CM Punk won by submission. The two also faced off at Payback 2013 where CM Punk was also victorious. With Punk being 42 and Jericho being 50, a matchup between the two doesn’t seem very ideal but it’s such a good rivalry that I’d love to see happen again.

3) Hangman Adam Page

Much like Sammy Guevara, Adam Page is easily one of AEW’s rising stars but hasn’t really had a fair opportunity to make a name for himself. From being in the main event of ‘All Out’ against AEW Champion Kenny Omega to supposedly not even being on the card. Personal reasons seem to be what’s keeping him off of the show but a match with CM Punk could be something to look forward to when he does return. Punk and Page is a PPV-worthy match that all wrestling fans would love to see.

2) MJF

Imagine the promos between CM Punk and MJF. Punk’s ‘Pipebomb’ on Monday Night RAW in 2011 proved that he is basically golden when he has a microphone in his hand and MJF’s cocky attitude could make for excellent television when they’re both inside of a wrestling ring. Aside from their microphone skills, they each have amazing wrestling ability to back it up.

I’ve often imagined MJF being Punk’s first rival. When CM Punk’s entrance music hit and the United Center erupted, MJF coming out instead of Punk would’ve been the ultimate heel move and would’ve drawn so much heat from the crowd. Hopefully, we see these two inside of a ring very soon.

What a match this would be. The Best in the World vs. the best wrestler in the world is the type of match that should headline AEW’s top PPV. Regardless if Omega is still the AEW Champion or not, Tony Khan should book this match very fast. Fans have wanted it before Punk to AEW was even thought about. It would’ve been nice to see when Punk was a bit young but it’s still going to be amazing nonetheless.
