Fightful Select has confirmed that Adam Cole‘s contract with WWE expires this coming Friday. It has been speculated for some time that Cole’s final match was going to be against Kyle O’Reilly this past Sunday at NXT TakeOver: 36.

Reports suggested Adam Cole had extended his deal for the short-term to finish his feud with O’Reilly on NXT. It was also said that Cole was recently at Friday Night SmackDown holding talks with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon about re-signing with the company. It appears that nothing was agreed and the former NXT Champion will be leaving this week.

Rumors are now intensifying that Adam Cole is set to join his partner, AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker, at All Elite Wrestling. AEW has recently brought in CM Punk and is set to be debuting Bryan Danielson imminently. Cole would slot right at home on the AEW roster.

The former NXT male competitor of the year for 2019 and 2020 spent all of his time under a WWE contract with NXT. He was mainly a part of storylines with the Undisputed Era.

Is time up for Adam Cole in WWE?

It was news that we have been anticipating for a number of weeks now, so it comes as no surprise. It appears that Adam Cole has had it in his mind for a while now that he would be leaving the WWE once his contract had expired. It also gives him the opportunity to be on the road with his real-life partner.

The next move for Cole could seem pretty clear: AEW. All Elite Wrestling has been ‘moving the needle’ the last few weeks making some big moves. Cole would be another piece of that jigsaw who would easily slot onto the roster. AEW would suit him down to the ground with the company been more wrestling-focused. He would have no problem shining. He will also have plenty of fans behind him, who have admired his work long before he arrived in NXT. He will go down as one of the greatest superstars to ever perform on NXT, that’s for sure.
