AEW: Bryan Danielson’s words speak of a shift in professional wrestling
AEW All Out was a show of epic proportions. The night seemed like a night full of highs, culminating in a showcase that featured the AEW arrivals of Ruby Soho, Minoru Suzuki, Adam Cole, and Bryan Danielson. The latter took the microphone to relay a very important message to the fans in the arena and everyone who’d see the footage after. It was a message that emphasized the impact of the AEW movement and a potential shift in power in professional wrestling.
As the crowd chanted “Yes,” Danielson stood in the ring with Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus, and Marko Stunt. He promised the crowd that he wouldn’t speak forever, but that he had some very important points about why he is now a part of AEW after what many would call a successful run in the WWE. Those points included the fans watching around the world, the members of the roster that made the first jump to AEW, and the young talent that have taken that baton to continue the race.
“From the people who came here early and believed in AEW. I’m talking about Chris Jericho. I’m talking about Jon Moxley who came here. I’m talking about young men and women that were busting their ass on the independent circuit and AEW gave them a chance. And boy have they delivered,” Bryan said. “So, when you see me here, and you see CM Punk here, and you see Christian here, and you see Ruby Soho here. Who I want you to thank are the original members of AEW.”
He also spoke highly of the WWE. He talked about his love for the promotion, but he made the very important point that even as much as he loved the WWE, he still left. That is a point that should leave a resounding note on this conversation. Bryan Danielson, a multiple-time champion, who the WWE wanted to keep a part of that corporation saw it best for his place in this business to leave and join AEW.
What does that mean for the multiple individuals on the WWE roster that are disgruntled? Nearly every week there are “reports” produced by individuals of the wrestling media that hint at individuals that are “upset” with their placement or lack thereof within WWE. Should they be seen as flight risks? Potentially, and that’s the intriguing part of the equation.
The phrase “Go to AEW” is quickly tossed out whenever an individual expresses disdain on social media or fans push for that person to be treated better. As AEW continues to put on shows like All Out, that will make the idea of moving to that brand more enticing. However, AEW can begin to pick and choose who comes through their curtains. That’s important because overcrowding can happen on a wrestling roster. AEW isn’t there yet but should be aware of that concern.
Still, Danielson’s words should create a cause for concern within the WWE. Cole was another individual who stated he was “happy” within the WWE, but the decision to move to AEW was “fairly easy.” The wrestling world is watching closely because this is a moment and a speech that will be remembered for years to come.
