It has been reported by Andrew Zarian of Mat Men Podcast, that Big E’s WWE Championship victory was set to take place during the WWE Draft.

SmackDown’s Big E captured his first WWE Championship, cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Bobby Lashley. The moment happened following the conclusion of the Bobby Lashley vs. Randy Orton WWE Championship match which main-evented Monday Night RAW on September 13th.

Why the change was made remains to be seen, but it is likely WWE pushed ahead with the plans to give Monday Night RAW a huge boost. The WWE Draft will no doubt draw fans in, so it seemed like the right time to pencil in Big E’s cash-in to be the main talking point coming out of the show.

Big E now becomes the second member of The New Day to win the WWE Championship. Kofi Kingston was the first, capturing the championship at WrestleMania 35 against Daniel Bryan.

Big E always booked to win his Money in the Bank cash-in

It has been a long time coming, but one of the most popular and charismatic superstars to grace our screens finally has world championship gold. He’s widely adored behind the scenes and by the WWE Universe around the world. It was a universal celebration when he cashed in the briefcase, even if we did have to sit through a commercial first!

Where Big E and The New Day go from here is unknown, as it was widely expected that Lashley and Goldberg would have a rematch, potentially at the next Saudi pay-per-view. Either way, it is a fantastic moment that has captured the hearts of the WWE Universe, and will no doubt be universally celebrated for the rest of the week and the weeks to come. Congratulations, Big E. Now we can all feel the power!
