Tommy Dreamer suspended indefinitely by IMPACT Wrestling
Tommy Dreamer, this morning, has been suspended indefinitely by IMPACT Wrestling. The suspension follows last night’s controversial airing of Dark Side of the Ring.
Dreamer was interviewed on the show entitled ‘Plane Ride from Hell’ to discuss the infamous WWE plane ride back from their European tour in 2002 which resulted in chaos and shame.
‘The Innovator of Violence’ made a number of comments, and one in particular, seemingly defending Ric Flair’s sexual harassment of a flight attendant.
The statement from IMPACT read: “We are aware of Mr. Laughlin’s (Tommy Dreamer) comments on “Dark Side of the Ring”. The views expressed by him in the interview are completely unacceptable. We can confirm Mr. Laughlin was suspended this morning with immediate effect, pending further action”
Dreamer was said to have been absent from the IMPACT tapings scheduled for this weekend, with later details revealing that he had been suspended. Dreamer is currently employed by IMPACT as backstage personnel and an on-screen performer. An email was sent out to talent and staff to confirm his absence.
Tommy Dreamer suspension the right thing
IMPACT Wrestling clearly saw that something wasn’t quite right with Dreamer’s words last night, just like the rest of us watching on. Tommy seemingly made it clear that Flair’s exposing of his private parts to a female flight attendant was just ‘fun’ and was taken too seriously. At the end of the day, this is sexual harassment, and how Dreamer can feel that is acceptable, I am not sure.
Where Dreamer goes from here is unclear. IMPACT will be investigating, but all the evidence is clear to see. IMPACT has done the right thing here to set an example that the kind of behaviour the former ECW Champion insisted should be taken as a joke, should be taken seriously.
