AEW star Chris Jericho was a guest on a recent episode of REINVENTED with Jen Eckhart to discuss a variety of topics after AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam.

One notable topic was his discussion about New Japan Pro Wrestling star Will Ospreay. Jericho revealed that he thinks Ospreay appearing for AEW in the future ‘will probably happen.’

Jericho said “I’d love to see Will in AEW. I actually called him way, way back when we were first starting out to see what kind of interest he had, and I think there’s a lot of guys that want to work in Japan and spend time there,” Jericho noted. “I know because I was one of them. Been to Japan over 60 times now at this point in my career and I think there will come a time where Will decides he wants to work in his own country. I know he’s English but America, that sort of an idea is much more similar to England than Japan is.”

“There’s something to be said about being a worldwide television superstar, and you won’t get that working for New Japan Pro Wrestling. It’s great to be there, but the big leagues, the real big leagues kind of lie in America. So I would love to see Will working with AEW, and at some point, I think that will probably happen, but in the meantime, we are building the talent that we have. MJF to Sammy Guevara to Darby Allin, Jungle Boy, Hangman Page, the list goes on and on of these guys that we built basically from scratch. Even Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, weren’t half as big then as they are now. So I think we’ve done a great job because you have to build from the bottom up.” Jericho concluded. There have been plenty of crossovers between AEW and NJPW in recent months, with wrestlers such as Minoru Suzuki and KENTA competing for Tony Khan’s company whilst still under NJPW contracts. Of course, in the past, we’ve seen talent such as Jericho and Jon Moxley appear for New Japan Pro Wrestling whilst under an AEW contract. The ‘forbidden door’ is open so it is very much likely a crossover could happen with Ospreay, or even Ospreay signing with AEW full-time at some point in the future.

Chris Jericho vs. Will Ospreay in AEW?

Jericho mentioned in his quotes about becoming a worldwide superstar. If Will Ospreay was to become a worldwide superstar, then Jericho has hit the nail on the head. He won’t get that with NJPW, but he would have a much better opportunity at doing so performing for AEW. On paper, there is a whole host of dream matches and feuds for the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, including a feud with Chris Jericho. Ospreay is only 28 years old, time is on his side for now. He’s yet to hit his prime and there is no doubt more to come for the British-born high flying star.
