WWE Survivor Series this past Sunday was the 25th anniversary since The Rock debuted for the company. WWE even promoted the anniversary ahead of the big event, which led many to believe that The Great One would be in attendance.

It was reported in the summer by Andrew Zarian of Mat Men Podcast that The Rock was indeed penciled in for the event. Of course, this did not ultimately happen, and more details have now been revealed as to why this was not the case.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter confirmed that The Rock is currently away in Europe working on his latest film. It meant that it was seemingly impossible for the former WWE Champion to attend, especially with Covid-19 restrictions currently in place for travelers arriving from Europe.

Although not in attendance in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center for Survivor Series, The Rock was referenced throughout the show. WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, returned on-screen to confirm that he had been gifted Cleopatra’s egg from Rocky’s upcoming film, Red Notice.

It currently remains to be seen whether The Brahma Bull will return or not, as it has been speculated for a number of months now that he is set to face Universal Champion, and his bloodline, Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 38.

The Rock doesn’t appear after a big build

All November on social media, WWE has been building towards something with The Rock, with references to his debut 25 years ago, and even Roman Reigns mentioning him on Jimmy Fallon’s talk show. Although references were made throughout Survivor Series, it felt a little flat that considering it was such a big occasion, The Rock didn’t appear in any capacity.

Even something as small as a video promo would have been accepted by the WWE Universe, but I guess we will just have to wait a little longer to see The Great One return.
