Johnny Gargano had built the perfect wrestling story in NXT because he was the NXT brand version of Daniel Bryan, meaning he was a great worker and loved by the fans. When Ciampa went down with a knee injury, fans wondered what was next when it came to the NXT world championship and Johnny Gargano. The fans got their answers when Gargano would face Adam Cole at NXT Takeover New York in a two out of three falls match to win the big NXT world championship.
