A stunning announcement was made on Saturday morning as Lio Rush informed the wrestling world that he’s set to become a free agent on February 14.

This announcement comes at a time when many wondered where Rush has been, as he has not been on AEW television for weeks. His last match with the company was back on December 8, when he took part in the Dynamite Diamond Ring Battle Royal.

Weeks after that match the situation between Big Swole and Tony Khan erupted on social media. After Khan’s controversial tweet, Rush publicly demanded an apology from Khan for how the situation was handled and speaking so negatively about Swole. Later on, January 1 he would issue a statement about the situation and being “proud to work for a boss and a company that try to make these strides in social equality.”

But he hasn’t been back on television for the company since. He has performed for other organizations like DEFY and NJPW Strong in that time.

“On February 14th, 2022, my contract will expire with AEW and I will become a free agent,” Rush posted on social media Saturday morning.

At 27-years old, Rush is recognized as one of the best, young talents in wrestling. A former champion multiple times over, including the WWE NXT Cruiserweight Championship, MLW World Middleweight Championship, and MCW Rage Television Championship, among others.
