WWE SmackDown results live from Kansas City, Missouri. It has been announced that Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins will appear to deliver a personal message to Universal Champion ahead of their Royal Rumble clash tomorrow night. Also, Naomi will face Sonya Deville one-on-one, Big E and Sir Kofi Kingston will team up to face Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss. Plus, Sheamus and Ridge Holland will face Ricochet and Cesaro.

WWE Smackdown Results – January 28, 2022

The show begins with the opening SmackDown intro video for the first time in a number of weeks. We cross live to the arena in Kansas City as Royal Rumble weekend begins.

SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair makes her way to the ring. Flair opens by insulting a local sports team. Flair hypes up the Women’s Royal Rumble match. Flair says she didn’t have to enter the match and cruised all the way to WrestleMania.

Flair says she doesn’t rely on fate or chance. Flair says she takes control. She says she is the most dominant champion in the history of the WWE. Flair says she will win the Rumble match and choose her challenger for WrestleMania.

Shayna Baszler then makes her out with new music. Baszler says if it ends up just her and Flair as the final two, then she will not hesitate to snap her like a twig, limb by limb. Then, Baszler says she will make Charlotte a promise that she will challenge her for WrestleMania if she wins the Rumble.

Aliyah then makes her way out. Flair questions who Aliyah is. Aliyah says tomorrow is her first Rumble and she’s got butterflies. Flair says she’s got zero chance. Aliyah reminds everyone that she beat Natalya in 3.17 seconds. Natalya then heads to the ring. She calls Aliyah rude, clueless, delusional, and lucky. Natalya reminds everyone that she’s a Guinness World Record holder.

Shotzi then enters. Shotzi says this is a great preview for tomorrow night. Shotzi says it’s the perfect opportunity for her to sneak right in and seize the spotlight. All four women argue and Charlotte says none of them belong in the ring with her.

Sasha Banks then makes her way out, returning from her recent short-term injury. Banks says that “The Boss” is back and she’s ready to rumble. The fans chant for Banks as she slaps Flair. The remaining superstars then begin to brawl. Flair ends up being the last woman standing before Banks appears behind her. Flair tries to attack her before she delivers a knee to the face, then sends Charlotte over the top rope.

Michael Cole and Pat McAfee show Ricochet breaking Ridge Holland’s nose at WWE Day 1. Holland is interviewed. He says he can still hear the crunch of his nose being broken. He says tonight he’s going to repay the favor. Sheamus says Holland talks and fights just like him, then they’re going to celebrate just like Sheamus. Sheamus then provides Holland with a protective face mask as a gift.

Sheamus & Ridge Holland vs. Ricochet & Cesaro

A Ricochet promo is shown before the match hyping his chances of winning the Rumble and beating Sheamus & Holland. Midway through the match, Ricochet takes a nasty landing following a dive over the ropes onto Holland on the outside. The match ends as Holland delivers his Northern Grit finisher on Cesaro to win after a hard-fought contest, with Holland also using his protective mask as a weapon.

Winners: Sheamus & Ridge Holland via pinfall

Backstage, Seth Rollins is shown somewhat dancing through the backstage area.

The traditional “it’s all about the numbers” Royal Rumble video is shown to hype up tomorrow night’s event.

Naomi makes her entrance, and a video is shown of Sonya Deville talking to a referee trying to influence him. The referee says he will call it down the middle.

Naomi vs. Sonya Deville

The referee calls them together to tell them to have a fair match and he will call it right down the middle. Deville begins the match dodging Naomi. She then manages to take control of Naomi in the contest.

Late in the match, Deville rakes the eyes of Naomi when the referee wasn’t looking, but Naomi manages to kick out of the pin attempt. Naomi eventually hits the Rear View followed by Split-Legged Moonsault from the top rope to pick up the win. WWE gave that one plenty of time to tell a story for Naomi to get her retribution.

Winner: Naomi via pinfall

Naomi gets on the microphone after the match telling everybody that they did it, in beating Deville. Naomi said no matter what Deville threw at her she couldn’t stop the glow. Naomi then says she’s going to win the Rumble match tomorrow, before telling Deville not to slip on her tears on her way out. Deville then returns as Naomi is celebrating. Deville says she can’t let Naomi go into the Rumble without a surprise. Deville reveals herself to be entering the match.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton is joined by the SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The Usos. Kayla asks them about Rollins and Reigns’ face to face later. They say they don’t care about what Rollins has to say, but say Roman will still walk out Universal Champion tomorrow night despite them being banned from ringside. The Viking Raiders then approach them. The Raiders reveal that they love their axes, and reveal holding some axes as The Uso’s look concerned and walk away.

Sami Zayn makes his way to the ring for another episode of “In-Zayn” with Jinder Mahal and Shanky. Zayn says the pranks got out of hand the last couple of weeks. He says they’ve repackaged the show to a live podcast.

His first guests are Jinder Mahal and Shanky. Zayn says that Nakamura still owes him an Intercontinental Championship match. Mahal says he’s honored to be the first guest. Zayn interrupts him and says this is what the show should have been all along with no Johnny Knoxville or stooping down to his level.

Zayn says this show is about smart people having smart conversations. He asks Jinder how he’s feeling about his tag team match tonight. Zayn brings up Johnny Knoxville again. Jinder says that Knoxville is famous in India and around the world. Shanky even says he loved one of his stunts and Sami respectfully disagrees.

Rick Boogs then appears on the stage doing his intro and introduces Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. Zayn isn’t happy and he gets in Nakamura’s face, but Nakamura kicks him in the face sending him out of the ring.

Intercontinental Champion, Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs vs. Jinder Mahal & Shanky

Zayn joins Cole and McAfee on commentary for the match. After around five minutes, the match ends when Boogs hits the Boogs Cruise, showing off his impressive strength on Shanky, to win the match for his team.

Winners: Rick Boogs and Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura via pinfall

Backstage, Kayla is joined by Kofi Kingston and Big E. Kingston says when one of the New Day wins the Rumble, they all win the Rumble. E says Corbin and Madcap Moss will feel the power.

Big E & Kofi Kinston vs. Happy Corbin & Madcap Moss

A promo is shown before the match of Corbin and Moss. Moss tells a joke about Drew McIntyre. It is revealed that McIntyre’s neck does not require surgery but a return date has yet to be scheduled. E and Kingston eventually pick up the win as they deliver a Midnight Hour to Moss.

Winners: Big E & Kofi Kingston via pinfall

Universal Champion Roman Reigns, makes his way to the ring. Then, after a commercial, Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins heads to the ring. Reigns tells Kansas City to acknowledge him. Rollins interrupts and says last week he played Roman like a fiddle.

Reigns says it was a simple decision to punch Rollins in the face. Reigns says Rollins is still living in the past. He then says The Tribal Chief equals god mode now. Rollins strolls back in time reflecting on the most famous Money in the Bank cash-in of all-time at WrestleMania 31 that upstaged Reigns.

Reigns says it is all water under the bridge. Rollins mentions when he smashed Roman in the back with a chair to turn on The Shield. Rollins says when he took that chair, he was doing it for Reigns’ own good which ultimately catapulted him to the main event. Rollins says Reigns is the greatest superstar of his generation.

Rollins says Reigns has done it all except beat Rollins when it matters most. Rollins says he will always love Reigns and laughs. Reigns isn’t sure what to say but responds by saying he tried to forgive Rollins for breaking up The Shield, he says he will never forgive for what he did to them. He says he hates Rollins.

Rollins responds by saying Reigns and his title reign are a joke. That his cousins and his family are a joke as Rollins laughs in his face. Reigns pushes him away as Rollins continues to laugh. Reigns then nudges past him, before trying to deliver a Superman Punch, but Rollins dodges it and escapes the ring.
