WWE made a shocking creative move on Tuesday when Dolph Ziggler won the NXT Championship during a triple threat against Bron Breakker and Tommaso Chiampa. The reactions ranged from intrigue to confusion, but it was a rare moment where a large segment of Wrestling Twitter was interested in WWE creative. Ziggler’s title victory opens some interesting doors for the next steps in the brand and all the individuals involved.

First, there’s Ziggler. As a performer, he should be recognized as one of the most capable wrestlers in the industry. WWE has long failed at booking him to his abilities, but he’s shown multiple examples that he can put on the type of matches seen from the likes of AJ Styles, Bryan Danielson, Kenny Omega, and anyone else at the top of the pile. But as with many other names on the WWE roster, he’s never utilized in said way. This is a moment to help change that in a sense.

Imagine Ziggler as the top champion in NXT, being chased by the talent the brand is meant to build. There are opportunities to create matches between Ziggler and Carmelo Hayes, LA Knight, WALTER, Solo Sikoa, and others. Those types of feuds help create the personalities that fans will want to see in the future. Ziggler can be a big part in developing those stories that can build interest in WWE NXT 2.0.

What about Breakker? It looked like WWE NXT was meant to be built around him, but his star power is bigger than even early measurements gauged. Yes, he is very green, but that has never stopped this company in the past. Breakker is tailor-made for WWE Monday Night Raw and after his brief appearance on the show this past week, no one would be surprised if he turned up on that brand immediately after WrestleMania. If this is a step to get the title off him and make that move possible, then it is the right decision.

Chiampa is in an odd position. He’s bounced back and forth between Raw and NXT as of late. It seems like his best bet is to remain in NXT where he can continue to be featured in storylines – even if they are not surrounding the title picture. Chiampa is a valued veteran that is in a solid place to continue contributing to NXT.

The same could be said to Bobby Roode if he stayed in NXT for a second run. This could help revitalize his position on the roster, just like it did with Finn Balor. He and Ziggler are a sound tag team, but they don’t bring a lot of interest in the main roster tag picture and they both would be better utilized back in NXT.

There’s still plenty of time for this whole storyline to go left and end up in a disappointing fashion. But for now, Dolph Ziggler winning the NXT Championship created a boost of interest in what’s next for the top of the card on that brand.
