Bronson Rechsteiner (Bron Breakker), who is actually the son of former WWE and WCW Wrestler, Rick Steiner, is a definite star in the making. In this piece, we’ll see exactly why that is.

If the name Rick Steiner sounds familiar to you, then you knew the Steiner Brothers and watched them wrestle throughout the eighties and nineties (they would wrestle in the new millennium as well, although sporadically).

The Steiner Brothers

The Steiner Brothers from Bay City, Michigan, took the professional wrestling industry by storm as a tandem in 1988 in WCW. Rick, Bron’s dad, was a singles wrestler and it was at Starrcade in 1988 that Scott accompanied his brother to the ring for the first time. It would be during the following year that they would be an official tag team.

What followed were years of impressive matches, they showcasing that incredible amateur wrestling background (they both wrestled as amateurs for the University of Michigan), and really the two were precursors for wrestlers like Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar and even Chad Gable. Technical wrestlers to a T, folks. If you haven’t seen their matches, please do so.

It was in 1992 that they made it to the then WWF, and had memorable matches in Vince McMahon’s company.

Of course, they went on to have impressive careers before their return to WCW (they even spent some time in ECW), and subsequent separation. What followed was a massive character change and overall in-ring style for Scott and after WCW was sold, Rick opted out of returning to WWE (as his brother did in 2002), but wrestled for NJPW, TNA, and other promotions until 2008. He still makes sporadic appearances.

But he had a son. In fact, he had three, but it was Bronson who would follow in his footsteps.

The apple does not fall too far from the tree

Bron had one heck of a college football career, he playing with the Kennesaw State Owls. Also of note, he wrestled as an amateur, winning the Georgia Class AAAAAA state championship in 2016. In football, he was signed to play with the Baltimore Ravens in 2020 but was released later that same year.

It was then he turned his attention to professional wrestling, following in the mighty footsteps of this uncle and father. Bron actually looks a lot like his uncle Scott, as much as he looks like his dad.

And it’s been quite the year for Bron, he moving quickly amongst the ranks in WWE…going from getting signed with the WWE in 2021, to the performance center and to performing on NXT 2.0 in less than a year, he impressing one and all.

His in-ring work is exceptional already from what we’ve seen and judging by recent episodes of NXT, it looks like he’ll be getting the opportunities he deserves very soon.

Current WWE Superstar, and one-half of the Raw Tag team champions, Matt Riddle, spoke about Bron recently while speaking to Corey Graves on After The Bell, according to a report at E-Wrestling News, he said:

"“…Bron Breakker, dude’s a house…Guys pretty stacked, you know? I mean, right now, he reminds me of a younger Goldberg. I feel like him on the mic, he’s very short, very intense, and then in the ring, he’s not doing a lot of dips and dives, but he definitely gets the job done. The guys a ball of muscle, that’s all I can say. When I think of breakout stars, when I think of up and coming future guys and I see that guy, I think, yeah. That guy in three years could be fighting for the world championship…Now, only time will tell, but from what I’ve seen, he’s going to have a pretty bright future…”-via Matt Riddle /After The Bell"

What’s in a name?

Yes, good old Shakespeare definitely said it best, but recent controversy has been kicked up because of Bron’s in-ring name.

PW Insider reported (via ringsidenews.com) on just why WWE may have changed Bron’s name from the very digestible and logical Rex Steiner to the name they’re now using: Bron Breakker.

Apparently, WWE does not own the Steiner name, and they like to own all of the wrestler names they do use, so the change was imminent.

Besides, it doesn’t look like WWE cares how awkward a name or a gimmick is. Just think back to The Gobbledy Gooker (sadly portrayed by the legendary Hector Guerrero) and you’ll more than understand.

Eric Bischoff chimed in on Bron’s name-change by WWE on an episode of 83 Weeks. He said:

"“…Rick is one of my favorite people from that part of my life and we’re still friends. We don’t chat all the time and all that. Rick and I became pretty good friends in WCW and we became very good friends after WCW. So happy to see (Bron on NXT) but I’ve got some issues with the Bron Breakker thing. I kept my mouth shut…I get that they didn’t want to call him Rex Steiner…The truth of the matter is, the business WWE and AEW are in, you have to protect your intellectual property. I get that. But they just cut a guy by the name of Braun. That’s the part I don’t get. The Breakker part, that’s like a video game kind of mentality. I get why they would do that. I understand it, but I still hate it. But the Bron part of that, the Bron Breakker after they just got rid of Braun Strowman, man. That’s the part that got to me, and I just want to go (crazy) on Twitter…”-via Eric Bischoff"

But will a name stop the likes of Bron Breakker? I think not, as he is his father’s son and he undoubtedly is his uncle’s nephew.

Next. Heels (Episode 7): Recap and Review—plus, a look ahead. dark

He is athletic, impressive, and seems to be just waiting in the wings for something massive in the future. I guess you can say that a title run is imminent; to use that word again…imminent, but it’s true.

Very excited to see just where his career goes.
