Big E gives update on neck injury and is ‘very grateful’ for the support
Last night on WWE SmackDown a scary moment in professional wrestling that left the industry holding its collective breath. Big E suffered a serious neck injury during a spot with Ridge Holland, where Holland tossed Big E with an over-the-head suplex on the floor. Big E came down hard on his head and was stretchered out. He provided an update on his status via social media Saturday morning.
Sheamus and Holland, along with the debuting Butch, (formerly known as Pete Dunne), were taking on The New Day in a standard match. Big E and Holland ended up on the outside of the floor, in front of the announce table. The minute Big E landed it was clear that something was wrong.
“So, I got some really good news, all things considered,” Big E said via social media. “The C1 and C6 are indeed fractured, not displacement though, which is a very good thing. I don’t have any damage to my spinal cord, no ligament damage, and no surgery, which I’m very thankful for.”
Immediately after the moment happened in the match there was an outpouring of support across social media, both within the WWE and promotions beyond. Wrestlers, personalities, and media members alike expressed concern for Big E’s health and wellbeing. The response from his peers is a true testament to the person and professional that is Big E.
“But for real this meant a ton to me that so many of you have been so kind, reached out, stopped in to see me, and text me,” Big E said. “I feel like I sound like a broken record but I am very grateful. I’m going to be alright. It’s a blessing.”
