AEW Dynamite: Preview and Predictions for April 6, 2022
AEW Dynamite is back this Wednesday and will be broadcast live on TBS from Boston, Massachusetts.
Last week’s Dynamite pushed along some storylines that may come to a head at next week’s Battle of the Belts II.
CM Punk made his intentions crystal clear that when the Adam Page and Adam Cole program wraps up that Punk wants the next shot at whoever is champion.
Jay Lethal continued to pick up losses against top-tier talent on Dynamite, this time losing to Jon Moxley. And in doing so, Lethal continued to show traits that would tease a heel turn, a heel turn that would come to fruition on Ring of Honor’s Supercard of Honor pay-per-view last Friday.
The Pinnacle continues to show cracks in the foundation as FTR and MJF seem to be heading in different directions because of MJF and Wardlow’s issues, which would all but dissolve the Pinnacle faction.
FTR would also continue their subtle heel turn later in the show by challenging the Young Bucks to a rematch of their epic match at Full Gear 2020, which saw the Young Bucks take the AEW Tag Team Titles from FTR.
We also saw Toni Storm make her AEW debut and Andrade El Idolo pick up the biggest win of his career over Darby Allin after Darby was distracted by Sting being beaten down at ringside.
This week will see a tables match, some more Owen Hart Foundation Tournament qualifying matches, another AEW debut, and a dream tag team rematch with two sets of titles on the line.
Let’s take a look at what we can expect from the announced matches on this week’s AEW Dynamite.
Adam Cole vs Christian Cage
There have been some whispers of Christian not being used well by AEW over the past few months due to his lack of matches. But Christian is no spring chicken and should be used for special events like pay-per-views and matches like this, going one-on-one with one of the best, Adam Cole.
With all signs pointing towards an eventual rematch for the AEW World Title between Adam Page and Adam Cole, most likely at Battle of the Belts II, there is really only one possible outcome for this match.
But that won’t take away from the high quality of the contest.
There will be a lot going on during this match and the smart money says that both ReDRagon and Jurassic Express will be involved.
But if the Adam Cole blueprint goes to script, Christian Cage will suffer a low blow at the hands of Adam Cole right before Cole lowers the “boom” to pick up the win. Winner: Adam Cole
Samoa Joe vs Max Caster in an Owen Hart Tournament Foundation qualifying match
As clear as the winner of the Adam Cole and Christian Cage match is, this one might be even more so. After making an appearance at Ring of Honor’s Supercard of Honor on Friday to close the show, Samoa Joe will make his AEW debut this Wednesday, when he takes on Max Caster.
This has been a long time coming for Samoa Joe. Joe is a talented performer that has been out of the ring for a long time. And he now has a platform where he can be eased back in and get rid of any ring rust that may exist.
While it will be in a losing effort this is also a great spot for Max Caster. While Anthony Bowens is recovering from an injury, Caster is living his best life, wrestling CM Punk and Samoa Joe in back-to-back weeks. Winner: Samoa Joe
The Butcher & The Blade vs The Hardys in a Tables Match
And then we come to this. A tables match between Butcher and the Blade and the Hardys probably isn’t necessary here.
Coming off a Texas Tornado eight-man tag match a couple of weeks ago, is there really a need to put Matt and Jeff at risk again in a tables match?
Apparently, Tony Khan thinks so.
It is just tough to agree given the history of what the Hardys have already put themselves through in their career, coupled with watching Jeff Hardy grimace every time he delivers a Swanton bomb.
But the match will go on, and hopefully, it is the heels that take most of the devastating bumps in this one on the way to the Hardys winning again in AEW. Winners: The Hardys
Hikaru Shida vs Julia Hart in an Owen Hart Foundation Tournament qualifying match
This one should be short and sweet. Julia Hart has been teasing a heel turn for weeks, and this match with one of the best the AEW women’s division has to offer gives Hart the opportunity to further that turn.
But this should be nothing more than a glorified squash. Shida will join Toni Storm and Jamie Hayter in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, and more than likely set up another round of Shida vs Deeb. Winner: Hikaru Shida
The Young Bucks vs FTR for the AAA and ROH World Tag Team Titles
In what absolutely should be the main event of this week’s Dynamite, FTR will defend not only the AAA Tag Team Titles, but also their newly won Ring of Honor Tag Team Titles when they meet the Young Bucks for the second time.
This match is a chance to right a wrong from Full Gear 2020 when the Young Bucks took the titles off of FTR prematurely.
And while the Jackson brothers would go on to have a tag team title reign for the ages, FTR has struggled in their attempt to win back the coveted AEW Tag Team Titles.
AEW has a chance here to really cement FTR as the best tag team in the world by not only successfully defending their titles against the Young Bucks on Wednesday but also making a move towards a match with whoever might have the tag team titles when we get to Double or Nothing.
Plus, a win here for the “Top Guys” also puts their series with the Young Bucks at one win apiece, and sets up the third match for bragging rights down the line.
There are a lot of deserving tag teams in AEW that should be considered to get the next title run, but the level of FTR is just at a place right now where they need the be the tag team version of “The Belt Collector” that Kenny Omega gave us not that long ago. Winners: FTR
