AEW: Three angles that would improve Dynamite and Rampage
AEW television has no shortage of captivating storylines currently in place.
Wardlow trying to break free of the contract that he is under with MJF, CM Punk’s upcoming run as the next challenger for the AEW Title, and Jade Cargill going on a Goldberg like run have all created some fun television.
But like any product, AEW has some angles that are working and some thing could use an upgrade.
Here are three new angles that AEW should incorporate to make their television programs more consistently good from start to finish.
Miro’s Return
Other than Kenny Omega being injured, the biggest hole in AEW programming right now is the absence of Miro.
After a slow start with the promotion, Miro was taken off of his leash when he broke away from Kip Sabian and was allowed to run roughshod over the AEW roster, culminating with his TNT Title win over Darby Allin.
Miro is one of those talents that brings a high level of intensity into every contest and is able to sustain it throughout.
Miro has shown the ability to get over as both a heel and a face in his career. But as we head towards Double or Nothing having Miro come back as a face and stalk and eventually avenge his TNT Title loss to Sammy Guevara would be a great way to bring “The Redeemer” back.
Ever since Miro lost the TNT Title the championship has lost some of the prestige that it had had when it was around the waist of the likes of Cody Rhodes, Brodie Lee, and Darby Allin.
Bringing a wildly missed talent like Miro back to decimate Sammy Guevara would be a very nice reintroduction of the beast from Bulgaria.
Darby Allin breaks away from Sting
It has been a heck of a run for Darby Allin and Sting.
Ever since Sting made his shocking debut in AEW on the 2020 Winter is Coming show, he and Darby have been inseparable.
The brothers in paint have been an extremely successful tag-team, however, Darby has had his struggles in high-profile singles matches since joining forces with Sting.
After spending the past couple of months battling every possible combination of the AHFO, both Darby and Sting could use some different opponents. So why not each other?
Darby has been a popular babyface ever since AEW’s inception late in 2019. And for a character that has such apparent value as an in-betweener, that is a long time as a face.
Add to that Darby’s success as a tag team partner to Sting and his lack of success as a singles competitor in big matches since Sting’s arrival and you have a built-in storyline as to why Darby could become frustrated and end his friendship with Sting.
It is time to see a new side of Darby Allin, and a cinematic win over Sting at Double or Nothing could vault him to the front of the line for an AEW World Title shot down the line as a heel.
The Blackpool Combat Club adds a female member
The Blackpool Combat Club has made quite an impression in a short time in AEW. William Regal, Bryan Danielson, and Jon Moxley were the founding members and after a number of star-making performances opposing both Moxley and Danielson, Wheeler Yuta is now apparently a member of the club as well.
If the BCC is looking to expand to the women’s side of the AEW roster, there is a performer that would be the perfect addition to their club, and that is Serena Deeb.
William Regal was very forthcoming with his opinion of Bryan Danielson as the perfect wrestler, and that is hard to argue. But if you also look at the rest of the roster in AEW, Serena Deeb just might be Danielson’s female counterpart.
And if Deeb is going to continue her brutal run through the AEW women’s division and challenge young competitors to last five minutes with her in the ring then that sort of attitude seems to fit in perfectly with the Blackpool Combat Club.
Aligning herself with Regal, Danielson, Moxley, and Yuta will only continue to grow Deeb’s star and set her on a course to be a viable challenger to take the TBS Title off of Jade Cargill when the time is right.
