Making A Case: Why Windham Rotunda Should Join Impact Wrestling
While the WWE has made multiple shocking releases over the past two years, they come no more shocking than the release of “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt.
During the build-up to WrestleMania 38, fans around the world were playing the guessing game. Seth Rollins campaigned to get a spot on WrestleMania and was successful after multiple failures. The owner himself, Vince McMahon, told Seth that he would have a match against a hand-picked opponent. Many names were rumored and joked about being Seth’s potential challenger. Of all the names that were rumored, a few were going around more than others. One of the names was a nightmare of Seth Rollins’s past: “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt.
When WrestleMania came around the corner, it was rumored that Bray Wyatt was in Texas. With the WWE universe reeling with anticipation, Seth Rollins was inside the ring and the lights in the arena went dark. For a moment, every bit of assurance I had that it was going to be Cody Rhodes went out the window. For a moment, I thought it was about to be The Fiend making a shocking return. The next moment it was revealed to be Cody Rhodes making his grand return to the company. As excited as I was to see Cody back home in the WWE, I couldn’t help but think of what could have been.
The entire arena would have surely given Bray Wyatt the same reaction that Cody Rhodes received. The WWE fans would have loved to see Bray back inside a WWE ring as either of the incarnations of his character. Bray Wyatt was one of the fan favorites of the company even though he was hardly ever booked in the company as a babyface. The fans were drawn to the character and you could tell that Bray was enjoying himself playing these creative, outlandish characters. Despite how much passion he put into his character, he was barely rewarded for his sacrifices.
During his tenure with the company, Bray reached the top of the company on three separate occasions. He won the WWE Championship and then the Universal Championship twice as The Fiend. Despite being a three-time world champion, his time as champion was lackluster. He won the WWE Championship inside the Elimination Chamber but lost it forty-nine days later to Randy Orton at WrestleMania. He had a decent first run as Universal Champion that lasted over a hundred days. Unfortunately, while Bray was only starting to reign dominant as champion, Goldberg decided that he was next and it was game over for The Fiend’s reign.
Goldberg beating The Fiend not only robbed him of his Universal Championship but also ended all his momentum. He had been billed as this unstoppable supernatural being and couldn’t be viewed the same after this loss. Despite having an entertaining “match” with John Cena at WrestleMania, it was clear that The Fiend wasn’t the same as he was before. After bringing Alexa Bliss in to be by The Fiend’s side, it wasn’t soon until The Fiend was nearly playing second fiddle to Bliss.
Wyatt’s final reign as world champion was basically used to propel Roman Reigns into The Tribal Chief character. The Fiend defeated Braun Strowman to win the championship and was treated like an afterthought after Roman Reigns returned to attack Wyatt and Strowman. A week later, Roman defeated The Fiend and has held the Universal Championship ever since. While Roman moved on to become unstoppable, everything simply stopped. After being set on fire by Randy Orton, The Fiend was never the same.
After returning with a charred new look, Alexa Bliss suddenly declared she no longer needed The Fiend. A few months later, Bray Wyatt was released from the company. Fans around the world were shocked by the move by WWE. However, the fans were just as excited to see what would be next for the man behind the character. People wanted to see what would be the next move for Windham Rotunda. Would he make the move to AEW like many of his peers? Or would he look to make an impact elsewhere?
A few months after being released, vignettes began to be posted on YouTube on the channel ItBeginsAgain entitled “Windham Promo.” Since the promos appeared on a well-known wrestling editing channel, many fans speculate if the promos are fanmade or if they are really being produced for Windham Rotunda himself. The promos speak of his arrival and that his family is coming with him. In one video, it is declared that Windham had signed to join MCW Wrestling. A company that has seen appearances from many major stars including The Hardy’s.
The same channel has also seemingly produced a vignette for Windham’s brother Taylor Rotunda. Despite speculation about all these things, Windham has been quiet for the most part besides some cryptic posts on social media. At this point, it is still up in the air what will be the next move for the former leader of The Wyatt Family. With the wrestling community as hot as ever, there are multiple options for Windham to choose from. However, I personally believe he should sign where he knows he will immediately make an impact.
And that company, with all puns intended, is Impact Wrestling. While AEW and WWE have the bright lights on them at the moment, Windham doesn’t need the bright lights in order to shine. With a stacked roster in WWE and AEW, there are too many guys fighting to even get their heads into the picture. While in Impact Wrestling, things have been gradually improving over the past few years. They have risen from near death to reminding the wrestling world why they fell in love with TNA back in the day. Impact Wrestling has been compiling a tremendous roster of talent.
However, they need that one megastar to tip the scale for them. The moment that the man that was formerly known as “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt signs a contract with Impact Wrestling. It instantly becomes that much more important to watch that company. Windham would instantly become one of the biggest names in the company. He could easily follow in the steps of Abyss and become the monster of Impact Wrestling. He could join the devious stable of Violent By Design. There are endless possibilities for Windham in Impact Wrestling. They could both grow with the help of the other and I believe Windham would feel at home in Impact Wrestling.
