CM Punk versus “Hangman” Adam Page is the biggest feud heading into AEW Double or Nothing. The AEW World Championship is on the line, but it feels like much more at play. With just about two weeks before their showcase bout, there’s still one question to be asked – who is the individual that fans should root for once the bell rings?

Page comes into the fight with the championship around his waist. This has been an exceptional run, taking the title from Kenny Omega, and successfully defending it against Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson, and others along the way. While some fans complain, those are usually in the group that finds something to be upset about in anything.

Page’s time as champion tells the overarching story about whether Page is an imposter or someone that deserves to carry the title. The big wins so far have helped, but now the true test is in front of him in the “Best in the World.” Page has cut some scathing promos about Punk and their upcoming match, but one must wonder who he’s trying to convince more, the fans or himself.

Then there is Punk. Forty-three-year-old CM Punk. His whole return arc is built on the story of if he still has “it.” Can he still go with the wrestlers who grew up watching him at his best? So far, the answer has been “yes.” He’s picked up all the wins available to him so far, and now he’s standing in front of the champion. Does he get the job done and become champion again? Or does he fail and face the response that he’s too old to compete at this level?

And therein lies the problem the AEW masterfully creates. Fans can lean behind either person, both Page and Punk have reasons to root for them. But they’ve both hinted at the willingness to take shots and go a bit low in order to stay ahead of their opponent. Will one of them go too far? Are viewers witnessing the slow turn of Punk that was teased to come the moment he stepped back through the curtain? Again, more tough questions are set to be answered when they face off at Double or Nothing and set the tone for what’s to come.
