Riddle vs. Rollins is off SummerSlam card due to injury
Just days before SummerSlam, WWE has announced that Riddle is injured and cannot compete. He suffered a brachial plexus injury as the result of being curb stomped by his SummerSlam opponent, Seth Rollins. He is medically disqualified, therefore Riddle vs. Rollins has been postponed. The announcement was made by Kayla Braxton on The Bump.
Fightful Select is reporting that Riddle vs. Rollins could potentially happen at Clash at the Castle in September. Rollins is expected to be in Nashville to fulfill media obligations.
Possibilities for Rollins at SummerSlam
This leaves Rollins without an opponent for one of the biggest shows of the year. Rollins hasn’t missed SummerSlam in nearly a decade. “The Visionary” could make an appearance in a segment with some loud outfit matched by his equally loud cackle. He could make some declaration about how WWE is better off with RKBro and that he did the WWE Universe a favor.
Perhaps he will have a match with someone else who doesn’t have a match. “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles is free and they could have a nice little impromptu banger. Drew McIntyre and Sheamus are also absent from the card.
If WWE (*cough Triple H cough*) really wanted to shake things up in a post-Vince McMahon world, they could add Rollins to the Last Man Standing match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar. Reigns is Rollins former “Shield” brethren, after all. Maybe he helps “The Head of the Table” get acknowledged by Lesnar for old times sake.
Or he could help “The Beast” take down Reigns and The Bloodline to end his 700-day reign as pay for the Royal Rumble.
Rollins could curbstomp his former friend and become the Undisputed Universal Champion himself. That would certainly be a huge shakeup and would change the trajectory of WWE’s current path.
With Rollins being one of the company’s biggest stars, it would make sense for WWE to find a way to utilize him at one of their biggest shows. Whether he has a show-stealing match or gets involved in the main event, Rollins has to be included. It could help cement him as “Mr. SummerSlam”.
