The go home episode of AEW Rampage kicked off with the last round in the Trios tournament. Best Friends and Orange Cassidy took on Alex Reynolds, John Silver, and “Hangman” Adam Page. It was obvious from the start of the tournament that Dark Order would be the ones to face The Elite. Once Page replaced an injured Evil Uno and an injured Preston “10” Vance, it sealed the deal.

Page’s involvement takes the story to another level. On Being the Elite, Matt Jackson has thought about reaching out to Page to make amends. Page has clearly missed them too, but stuck by the friends who’ve always stuck by him. He turned down the Bucks offer to join them in the Trios tournament. In another episode of BTE, Page “trained” the Dark Order for the tournament. Page is the friend to the Dark Order that he’s always needed himself.

One thing that AEW is excellent at is long-term storytelling. This is particularly true with The Elite. Their stories with Page have been intertwined since before AEW even existed. They welcomed Page into the Bullet Club while in ROH and NJPW. He always felt like the odd man out, a story we followed for two years that included Page and Omega becoming tag team champions and Page’s eventual reign as AEW World Champion. It’s fitting that their stories intertwine once again when new champions will be crowned for the first time.

While the match will be a very good one, fans know who will win. Tony Khan said months ago that he was waiting for the return of Kenny Omega to introduce the Trios Championships. It doesn’t get more obvious than that. Even with the question of Omega being ready, he looked much stronger against Will Ospreay and Aussie Open.

The match is sure to be filled with high spots, the Terminator, and high emotions. And perhaps something more nefarious as Don Callis alluded to in a backstage segment with Page and Dark Order.

AEW Zero Hour starts at 7 PM ET followed by ALL OUT at 8 PM ET. Stay tuned to Daily DDT for the latest.
