AEW: The most underrated aspect of Jade Cargill’s TBS title reign
By J.C.
Jade Cargill’s most underrated career-defining moment in AEW.
Since debuting in AEW, Jade Cargill has left a strong and lasting impression in the ring as she continues to grow as a performer. She has gone through top talent including a notable victory over Athena and she has shown no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Around this time was when the TBS title was first rumored to appear and there were conversations about the significance of the title. It was officially introduced at the beginning of October and the stage was set as the women’s division prepared for the addition of the title.
It was the beginning of a shift for Jade and it set the tone for her reign for nearly two hundred and fifty days. AEW isn’t taking advantage of this unique opportunity that could not only build up Jade but the women’s division too.
The turning point for Jade Cargill’s career in AEW.
There was speculation on what the belt could be and what it could mean for the women’s division. Whether it will be an important title or if it will be a title competing for time with the women’s title. Jade was making moves and fans knew that whatever was happening, Cargill wouldn’t be too far behind.
It was on September 15th, 2021 when Jade Cargill had what many would consider the best match she has had in her young career against Leyla Hirsch. It was the first indication of Jade’s evolution as she continued to grow.
Leyla being a technically sound wrestler herself was the perfect test for Jade to go against an under-appreciated athlete capable of putting on a clinic helped fans see a different side of Jade. That match was when fans witnessed a hint that there was so much more to Jade than originally thought.
AEW has a rich roster of talent including Leyla Hirsch who gave Jade stiff competition before she became TBS champion. Jade has alternated back and forth between competing against stars making their debuts and defenses against those already on the roster.
Jade being a challenge for stars she has already gone against would be an epic way to assert her undisputed dominance on the roster. Jade is not the same competitor they initially faced, so it would be interesting to see them go against Jade again this time with the TBS title on the line.
On AEW there tends to be a timeshare between the primary AEW women’s championship with Jade defending the title once or twice a month. This timeshare has been a crunch with the women’s division still being given the short end of the stick.
That seems to be the recurring theme and it makes it a little hard for Jade to get full adulation for her long title reign and undefeated record in AEW. This is an old issue that has been brought up more than once, but nothing has been done thus far to solve the situation.
As Jade continues to hit milestones, it won’t be enough for her just to gain a victory a little over a year ago from certain competitors and move forward. Jade gaining another victory both pre-championship and right now would be the exclamation point.
The most notable difference came with Stokely Hathaway, a man who has been making moves throughout the roster and gaining so many new deals that it would even make the devil jealous. Jade was the first original deal and it shows that the TBS champion is going places with Stokely by her side.
It’s worth noting that she could literally close the year out as champion and hit an AEW milestone of one year with all momentum on her side. If Jade manages to make this accomplishment, it will be the perfect segway to usher in her junior year as a wrestler.
It’s only a matter of time before Jade makes more history, whether it’s on AEW Dynamite or Rampage, Jade has already solidified herself as an evolving athlete who is on top of the list as one of the top overall success stories in AEW history.
