Bianca Belair must drop the title to Bayley at WWE Extreme Rules
WWE Extreme Rules is coming in a few weeks with several big matches planned for the show. Bianca Belair versus Bayley is expected for the card and is the right next step in the progression of the storyline. This must be the moment that Belair drops the title, which would be the right move for the entire division.
Belair has been a dominant force for women’s wrestling in the WWE. Even back in her time in NXT, it was clear that she was a star in the making. That’s translated to the main roster, and with two WrestleMania main events in her pocket, she’s snatched the title “Ms. WrestleMania” away from anyone else on the roster.
As she enjoys a 174-plus day title run, the question of “what’s next” is growing within the fan base. Belair remains a big name that draws attention, but with Bayley coming back there’s a growing interest in what she can and will do as the champion. After so much time away from the ring, Bayley’s absence left a massive hole in the division. When WWE found itself in the ThunderDome-Era, Bayley, along with Sasha Banks and others became the pillars of programming. Not only were they double-champions, but they even went over to NXT to put on some of the best matches in that brand while drawing massive ratings. Bayley was the right woman to make the focus of WWE content and she delivered in that role.
It is time to put Bayley back in that position. As champion, Bayley establishes some new rivalries that viewers have not seen for a long while. She already hinted at Alexa Bliss as a former challenger heading into their match on this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw. Of course, Asuka is another individual who could carry a long-term program with Bayley. A returning Becky Lynch or Charlotte Flair? Both big names could main event a PPV with Bayley on the other side of the ring.
Belair is a made star for the WWE, one of the few new faces the company has created in recent years. For as long as she’s in the promotion, she will remain near the top of the women ‘s division. But that doesn’t mean she needs to remain in that position forever, as it is time for her to drop the title to build opportunities for other directions. Come WWE Extreme Rules, the Raw women’s division will have a new champion and that champion will be Bayley.
