WWE: War Games gives Survivor Series a much needed boost
Throughout the years, Survivor Series has been a Thanksgiving tradition for WWE. The event has its ups and downs. When it first became a PPV event, Survivor Series was a big deal. But it slowly lost its presence, and it does not feel like a big PPV anymore.
With Triple H in charge of WWE creative now, he has made Survivor Series interesting again. The event is no longer about the traditional five-on-five elimination tag team matches. Survivor Series will be about War Games.
WWE adding War Games into Survivor Series is the right move
Triple H said to The Ringer that Survivor Series would no longer be Raw vs Smackdown. It will be replaced with War Games. There will be two War Games matches and they will both be storyline based. This event will become relevant again because there will be no more of the brand supremacy gimmick.
Whenever they do Raw vs Smackdown, there is nothing on the line. that’s why it does not work. It also doesn’t help that WWE usually does a draft a month before Survivor Series. That hurt the premise of the PPV because there was no point in doing brand warfare when the roster changed the month before. Now that War Games will be built around this event, Survivor Series has a purpose again.
Who are the factions in WWE that could be involved in War Games?
Coincidently, there are multiple storylines involving factions that will be perfect for War Games. One storyline that will be perfect for War Games involves the Bloodline and Sami Zayn. The Bloodline has become the most interesting part of Smackdown in the last couple of weeks. And that is because of the Honorary Uce.
The story of Zayn joining the Bloodline is engaging right now. But we all know how this story will end. The perfect place to do that is at Survivor Series. Reigns kick Zayn out of the group for accidentally costing the Bloodline War Games. This also sets up a match between Zayn and Reigns for the WWE Universal championship at Royal Rumble.
If WWE does not want the Bloodline in War Games, they can do the Judgement Day and Seth Rollins vs AJ Styles, Matt Riddle, Edge, and Rey Mysterio instead. The Judgement Day has issues with Riddle, Styles, Edge, and Mysterio plus Rollins and Riddle are currently feuding. It makes sense for these men to be in War Games because they can end their feud at Survivor Series.
For the women, they could do Bianca Belair, Becky Lynch, Candice LeRae, and Asuka vs Damage CTRL. Damage CTRL currently has three members but they could add Indi Hartwell to the group since she fits with the team and she has a history with LeRae. I know Alexa Bliss should also be in this match but Damage CTRL attacked Lynch. If Lynch is still dealing with her shoulder injury, then Bliss should be in War Games.
For the past few years, maybe decades, Survivor Series felt like an irrelevant event. It almost felt like WWE only did the PPV because they felt like they have to and they little effort into the show. Now that Triple H is in charge, Survivor Series could be important again.
He is already making changes to the PPV like replacing the Raw vs Smackdown gimmick with War Games. And Triple H isn’t doing War Games just for the heck of it, he’s doing it for storyline purposes. Adding War Games to Survivor Series created so much buzz for the PPV that fans are excited for Survivor Series again.
