There are a lot of arguments going on around who is the “best” in various categories of professional wrestling. Those debates are frequently fueled by lists that are created, such as the PWI lists that come out each year. This week, the list of top tag teams dropped and fans started up as The Usos were ranked the top team in wrestling. Many individuals pointed toward the work that FTR has done and when looking at the 2022 resumes, FTR’s stands out as the best in tag team wrestling.

First things first, both teams have done some impressive work throughout the year. In WWE, the Usos continue to dominate the tag team picture. They captured both the Raw and SmackDown belts and held them in their iron grips. Alongside Roman Reigns, they are involved in one of the biggest angles throughout professional wrestling.

FTR has taken a different route but found success in their own way. While they still struggle to be featured as the top tag team in All Elite Wrestling, that hasn’t stopped them from entering their own phase of “belt collectors.” They’ve picked up the AAA, Ring of Honor, and IWGP Tag teams along the way – holding all of them for at least 165 days or more. This is a major deal in wrestling and an amazing visual to see Cash and Dax weighed down in gold whenever they are on screen.

What sets FTR’s run apart from the Usos’ is outside the control of both teams. FTR is benefiting from competing against multiple teams across a variety of promotions. This year alone the team has competed in AEW, NJPW, ROH, AAA, and more. Taking their show on the road has helped them put on some of the best matches seen in wrestling, including their two contests with the Briscoe Brothers in Ring of Honor.

The Usos are unfortunately saddled with the continued rebuilding that is going on in WWE’s tag team division. Not due to any fault of their own, but the promotion neglected much of the roster and professional wrestling for half of the year under Vince McMahon. Even though the Usos had great matches against the likes of The New Day and The Street Profits – these were all things that fans watched nearly week after week. There’s only so much that fans can get excited about when the company in charge continues to put the same product forward out of lazy booking.

At the end of the day, enjoying great professional wrestling is the name of the game. Thankfully, viewers get to witness two teams in FTR and The Usos perform at the highest levels. Hopefully, they will get to live in a space where the two teams stand across from each other to settle things. But right now, FTR has put together a better 2022 and should be recognized for such.
