Seth Rollins is 2022 Daily DDT Men’s Wrestler of the Year
All three members of The Shield put together a banner 2022 with Seth Rollins winning Men’s Wrestler of the Year.
No one could have expected the shenanigans that went down in professional wrestling throughout 2022. Even as behind-the-scenes madness disrupted nearly every promotion, in-ring action still delivered. There are several men that stood out for their contributions to wrestling in 2022, but after the Daily DDT staff took to vote, Seth Rollins stood at the top of the pile as the Daily DDT 2022 Men’s Wrestler of the Year.
2022 Daily DDT Men’s Wrestler of the Year Voting Results
- Seth Rollins: 29%
- Jon Moxley: 23%
- Roman Reigns & MJF tied:17%
Seth Rollins’s 2022 run is the epitome of an effective mix of professional wrestling and sports entertainment. He remained one of the most important people on the WWE roster, even though he wasn’t always in the title picture and picking up victories. Everything he did mattered throughout the year and reminded viewers that he is the centerpiece of this roster. There was a lot to complain about with the WWE product this year, even with Rollins, but his performance still elevated him to a status that deserves this recognition.
All of this is despite his win-loss performance. According to Cagematch, Rollins won only 37% of his matches. With a total of 122 matches in 2022, Rollins won 46 and lost 75 of his contests. That number aligns with Rollins’ take on whether wins and losses “matter” in professional wrestling but doesn’t negate the success he was able to find in the eyes of the Daily DDT staff.
Seth Rollins had several big moments in 2022
Look at the big moments Rollins had throughout 2022. First, he picked up an important win over Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble. That was a clear effort to keep him protected just in case WWE needed to elevate him to championship status. When WWE needed a big-name opponent for Cody Rhodes’s return to WWE, they went back to Rollins and he delivered one of the best feuds in wrestling. He and Kevin Owens had an entertaining partnership that ended in flames as it should from a wrestling perspective.
Nearly three years after his last run as a singles champion in WWE, Rollins successfully obtained the United States Championship. He held that belt for only 47 days, but he’s taking part in an important storyline that has helped rebuild Austin Theory, an individual that WWE is hoping to become a star of the future. Rollins is on the short list of potential winners for the Royal Rumble but even if he doesn’t get the victory, fans should expect him to be in an important angle heading into WrestleMania.
2022 was a big year for the three members of The Shield. Roman Reigns dominates as the Head of the Table. Jon Moxley is the most important man on the AEW roster. And Seth Rollins continues to excel as the “ace” of the WWE roster. All during the ten-year anniversary of their debut. Rollins’ performance stood out among the three, as he is awarded the 2022 Daily DDT Men’s Wrestler of the Year.
