Wrestling fans having been buzzing about El Hijo del Vikingo for the last several years. His acrobatic stunts have been clipped on social media seemingly every time the luchador gets in the ring. He is ranked number 8 on PWI 500 and number 7 in Sports Illustrated’s Top 10 Wrestlers, respectively.

Vikingo primarily works for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide where is the current AAA Mega Champion (Mega Campeón). He has won several tournaments and was the AAA Trios Champion twice.  Some fans may have gotten a brief glimpse into his abilities when he was on IMPACT Wrestling in 2019. The two companies have a partnership and IMPACT filmed several shows in Mexico City.

Last October after TripleMania XXX, Vikingo was attacked backstage by GCW stars Joey Janela, Gringo Loco, and Alex Colon. Fans started speculating that Vikingo was finally cleared to go to the U.S. to wrestle. In December, it was announced that the champion had received his visa to work stateside.

El Hijo del Vikingo comes to America

Shortly after that announcement, Vikingo was announced as an entrant in PWG’s famous BOLA tournament. GCW also announced that they would be working with Vikingo as well. At the time, AAA wouldn’t allow his matches to be streamed so only the fans in attendance were able to see the matches. Naturally, fans were displeased with this news and AAA eventually relented. Before the ban was lifted, someone uploaded Vikingo’s match against Blake Christian to YouTube.

Besides Christian, Vikingo has faced Janela, Loco, Black Taurus, Bandido, Aeroboy, Aramis, and Alex Zayne. He is now the Warrior Wrestling Lucha Champion. He has traveled back to Mexico to wrestle a couple of shows. In addition to more GCW dates, he will also be wrestling at The Collective 2023 and WrestleCon shows.

At Joey Janela’s Spring Break 7: Californication, the high-flyer will be taking on “Speedball” Mike Bailey. He’ll be taking on another lucha standout, Laredo Kid, at Gringo Loco’s The Wrld on Lucha. The AAA Mega Championship will be defended at WrestleCon when Vikingo takes on Komander and Black Taurus.

When AAA originally banned Vikingo’s matches from streaming, there was a caveat that his match could be shown on live TV. Some thought he might appear on IMPACT due to their relationship with the company. It also led to speculation of him appearing in AEW. Kenny Omega was the AAA Mega Champion during his “Belt Collector” run. He vacated the title when he was out due to injury. Vikingo won the vacant title in 2021 and has said that he wants to face Omega. In fact, he has said that he might go looking for Omega himself.
