MJF should have a year-long plus run as AEW World Champion

MJF having a dominant run last 365 days would set the tone for both his career and whoever takes the title from him. 

MJF has been the AEW champion for 120 days. He won the title at Full Gear by beating Jon Moxley. He has defended the championship against Ricky Starks and Bryan Danielson. And it looks like he will defend his title against Darby Allin, Jungle Boy, and Sammy Guevara in a fatal four-way match at Double or Nothing.

Besides being the world champion, MJF’s contract with the company is set to expire at the beginning of 2024 (allegedly). MJF will get offers from AEW and WWE. A year-long title run with MJF’s future in doubt could make a great story. That’s why he should hold the championship until January.

Why should MJF have a year-long run as AEW World Champion?

If MJF holds the AEW championship until January, he can talk about potentially leaving the company and going to WWE with the championship in the weeks before his contract expires. MJF will not take the championship if he signs with WWE because Tony Khan will not let that happen.

But The idea of MJF going on Dynamite and threatening to leave the company with the championship would be great. Just imagine him saying that going to leave and defend his title in New York or defending the title at Wrestlemania. That would be great TV.

That’s why there should be an AEW championship match at the first Dynamite of 2024 which will result in MJF losing the championship. Tony Khan has a great story that should be told at the end of the year. But who should beat MJF?

Who should beat MJF for the AEW championship?

Jungle Boy, Darby Allin, Ricky Starks, and Wardlow are the four wrestlers who will most likely dethrone MJF. Wardlow out of the four wrestlers has not lost a match against MJF. If I was a betting man, I would bet on Wardlow because he’s the favorite.

But to me, Allin makes the most sense to beat MJF because of the promo he cut last week where he pretty much said he’s an AEW lifer and that the championship should be on someone who cares about the company. The guy who would do anything to stop MJF from leaving the company with the AEW championship should beat him. And that guy is Darby Allin.

MJF has held the championship for four months. And he’s killing it. But he needs to keep the title for at least another 10 months. The story of MJF saying that he’s leaving the company with the title will not only be a great payoff for his reign, and his character but also his career in AEW if he decides to leave.
