AEW Rampage: TBS Champion Jade Cargill earns wins 58 & 59
Friday saw another early edition of AEW: Rampage due to basketball. This episode saw Jade Cargill issue an open challenge for her TBS Championship.
On the eve of her 500th day as TBS Champion, Cargill faced Danni Bee. Bee had a couple of matches in the company before Friday, but this one was her shortest. The champ beat her in just 36 seconds to earn win number 58.
“Smart” Mark Sterling asked if that was the best “they” had to offer. He expected an easy victory for Cargill, so another challenger was lined up. Genesis had a great backstory. She suffered a stroke and was paralyzed and worked her way back to become a wrestler. Unfortunately, the champ didn’t care about this and beat Genesis in 32 seconds.
After roughly a minute of wrestling, Cargill won two matches. When she came out of her first match, J.R. pointed out that Cargill hasn’t had much competition. It’s becoming too easy for her. She proved that by easily beating two women in short succession.
Sterling called for a third opponent so Cargill could get her 60th win. She thought she was getting another local talent when Taya Valkyrie attacked Cargill’s next opponent. As she made her way to the ring, Sterling was arguing with the referee. While distracted, Valkyrie took out Leila Gray and nailed the champ with “Road to Valhalla”.
“La Wera Loca” stood over her and asked, “Now, who’s that (expletive)?” She grabbed the title and declared she’d see Cargill at Double or Nothing.
Valkyrie has unfinished business with Cargill. She’s made becoming the TBS Champion her mission. When she finally got to face Cargill in an actual match, she was banned from using the “Road to Valhalla”/”Jaded”. This allowed Cargill to win. Valkyrie was then suspended after putting her hands on referee Aubrey Edwards.
During her suspension, she tweeted that “The Jade Brand is a fraud. Sooner or later, her house of cards will fall.”
After Valkyrie lost their first matchup, it made sense to do a rematch at Double or Nothing. The match has huge implications, as Cargill will be aiming for her 60th win. Should Valkyrie end her streak, she will obviously become only the second TBS Champion.
This would be the perfect time to put the title on Valkyrie since AEW is about to do a big tour in her home country of Canada. The Owen Hart Cup tournament will also be taking place in Canada. Valkyrie could potentially enter the women’s tournament.
