Christian Cage is one of the best heels of the modern era

After nearly three decades Christian Cage remains one of the best heels in professional wrestling.

On March 7, 2021, Christian Cage arrived at AEW Revolution to sign a contract with All Elite Wrestling. At the time Cage felt like another veteran signing that would be used in a feel-good story match to create a nostalgic feeling for older fans, but now two years later he feels like one of AEW’s most important free agent signings to date.

Starting with a babyface run then finally turning heel at last year’s AEW Dynamite Road Rager when he would hit the killswitch and a conchairto on his former protégé ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry, Cage has wrestled in a vast number of programs in his AEW run so far.

Easily his most enjoyable work has been when he is the heel in his feuds. Cage might have started his heel run with cheap heat promos using dead parents as his main talking points, but has grown a lot since then. Cage now has crowds in the palm of his hand, and uses his 20-plus years of experience to get some of the loudest boo reactions on the AEW roster.

When MJF was away from the company last summer for around three months, AEW needed a heel to be their mainstay bad guy on television and Cage quickly filled that rolled in his feud with ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry. MJF is probably the best heel today in all of wrestling, and even though he was gone from television, Christian Cage made fans almost forget he was even gone.

Cage even though he is a huge name in the wrestling business, during his heel run has put younger guys such as Wardlow and Jack Perry over to help them blossom into careers of their own.

Christian Cage is giving back to the business all while still being in one of the best runs of his career, proving he is one of the best heels in the modern era. What we don’t know is what is next for Christian Cage and his right-hand man Luchasaurus. The classic talker on the mic paired with muscle has worked many times throughout the year and a run with the TNT championship is hopefully in Christian’s future with the big man by his side by defeating Wardlow in a second match.

The AEW mid-card with current babyface champions Orange Cassidy and Wardlow is in big need of a heel reign with the belts and the best heel to take over one of those belts is definitely Christian Cage to continue his run. Cage with a belt around his waist could be one the best heat-gaining acts in all of wrestling today, but he needs that belt so we can find out sooner than later.
