WWE is gaining momentum heading into Money in the Bank 2023
By John Pearson
WWE has put on two strong PLEs back-to-back and has made multiple moves to gain momentum heading into Money in the Bank.
WWE has found the right footing going into Money in the Bank. There are multiple exciting feuds going on outside of the wrestlers going for the briefcase and the Money in the Bank match itself could inject some new excitement into the company.
After a rocky start after WrestleMania, WWE seems to be back on track. Dominik Mysterio and Cody Rhodes will be a fun watch, GUNTHER and Riddle could be a classic match if they decide to book it, and Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor could be even better than their previous matchup. All of these aren’t even the highlights of what is happening right now.
Multiple Compelling Women Feuds
The Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus feud have been phenomenal ever since Stratus turned on Lynch. The addition of Zoey Stark has only improved the storyline, allowing Lynch a fresh, exciting opponent, while giving Stark a major feud out of the gate from being called up from NXT. Stark has helped this storyline grow as Stratus hasn’t been around every week and elevates a young potential star.
Putting this rivalry in the Money in the Bank match was smart, as, the contestants are a great mixture of veterans and up-and-coming talent. Becky Lynch and Bayley are previous women’s champions, while Iyo Sky, Stark, and Zelina Vega have all proved in recent months that they have the ability to star in the WWE. The favorite for this match should be Sky as her story with Bayley would be perfect to come to a shocking turn as she can leave Damage Ctrl and go her own way, ultimately cashing in on Asuka, giving fans a dream feud between the two.
The Rise of LA Knight
The buzz around the Money in the Bank match on the men’s side is LA Knight. Knight is currently one of the most beloved wrestlers from the crowd, even if he is playing a heel. The deafening “YEAH” chants from the crowd cannot go unnoticed by the higher-ups in WWE. Knight has excelled on the mic and if WWE decides to pull the trigger on Knight, they could have a star who can create suspense for months as the fans continue to beg for a massive surprise cash-in that they haven’t felt in years.
While Knight is most people’s favorite to win the match, nobody in the match has ever won a WWE World Championship title, so the excitement is immense as fans could see a fresh champion soon. Shinsuke Nakamura, Damian Priest, Ricochet, and Santos Escobar all would be great choices but the fans have made it clear who they want to see hold the briefcase.
The Bloodline is Breaking
The most shocking moment going into the pay-per-view was Jimmy Uso’s turn against Roman Reigns, proclaiming himself as the Tribal Chief. The Usos have flirted for a while about leaving the Bloodline, but Jimmy finally turned against Roman for good, and the group is slowly breaking.
It is unknown if Reigns will defend his new Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, but if he does, a potential Reigns and Jimmy or Jey Uso match would be extremely exciting, especially if WWE is going to give Jimmy Uso his shot at the head of the table like his brother did years ago.
Coming out of WrestleMania, there was a large fear that WWE was facing an uphill battle of keeping the Bloodline story interesting, but they have done a great job with the Jimmy Uso turn, and everyone is glued to the screen to see what is going to happen next with the family.
