DIY was one of the most beloved tag teams in professional wrestling and bringing them back together on the main roster would be huge.
Tag team wrestling is a big part of the industry. There are several teams that built the careers of some of the top individual stars in wrestling, and many teams that have taken hold of the fans’ hearts. DIY is more of the latter and now is the time to bring them back together on the WWE main roster. They would do wonders for both the tag and singles divisions – if given the opportunity to do so.
Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano are back on Monday Night Raw. Together, they formed one of the most important tag teams in recent WWE history. Their catalog of matches features some of the best performances seen in tag team wrestling, regardless of promotion. Storylines and injuries forced them apart, but now they are so close to being brought back together. This is the perfect time to do so.
The question is whether WWE Creative (read: Vince McMahon) will get out of the way and let it happen. Gargano and Candice LeRae both saw video packages done in the last month, but those packages were just one-and-done. Ciampa returned on the June 19 edition of Raw, defeating The Miz, and ridding himself of that partnership that was central to his storyline before the injury. But there’s still concern about whether this duo will be put back together for a full-on run.
McMahon’s return to creative continues to take hold week after week. His frequent changes are noticeable, reminding fans of where the product has been for much of the last decade. Gargano is one of the many wrestlers that have suddenly disappeared from television, seemingly locked away in the purgatory that is McMahon’s feeble creative mind. One can also wonder if the same is going to happen to Ciampa now that his return is complete. To be honest, there isn’t a lot of faith in the opposite.
A reformed and unleashed DIY could do amazing work in WWE’s tag team division. Imagine pitting them against the likes of Pretty Deadly, The Street Profits, Brawling Brutes, American Alpha, Imperium, and more. There are so many teams that they’d be able to tell great stories with and have amazing matches. And of course, there’s a potential match against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. No wrestling fan would deny the abilities of those four men in the ring and what they could pull off if given the space to do so.
Unfortunately, the situation seems out of their hands. DIY on the main stage that is WWE Raw and SmackDown would be a massive boost to that tag division. Here’s to hoping that they get the opportunity to be the great wrestlers and sports entertainers that fans know and love.
