3 acts and feuds that would improve the AEW main event picture
AEW fans are a little fed up with the company's main event picture. The infusion of COPE and Chris Jericho have some wondering what direction AEW is heading in, at least at the top of the card. There's a lot to be excited about in the company, and looking at what else is going on in AEW, here are three suggestions for acts or feuds to put in the main event that would work much better than the current Death Riders versus AEW storyline.
Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega and Buddy Matthews versus the Don Callis Family
The latest edition of AEW Dynamite featured two interesting segments with Will Ospreay. First, he and Buddy Matthews had a great opening match - as many would expect. But what happened after the match, along with some reporting about Malakai Black made it seem like Matthews is heading for a singles run. Later that evening, Ospreay saved Kenny Omega from an attack at the hands of the Don Callis Family.
The stage is set for Ospreay and Omega to face off against the group the wronged them both. But they are a man down. A void that should be filled by Matthews looking to kick off his singles run. If The House of Black is really closed, imagine Matthews getting a boost by teaming with the two biggest names in AEW. The rise would certainly help him get momentum toward his first major push since joining the promotion.
The Hurt Syndicate Doing Business
All Elite Wrestling brought in MVP, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin as a testament to fans love for The Hurt Business in WWE. Everyone knows that both Triple H and Vince McMahon failed to handle this group correctly. AEW has an opportunity to build good will by leveraging these three men in a big angle at the top of the card.
Things got off to a great start with Lashley and Swerve Strickland being slotted against each other. Lashley basically squashed Strickland and moved on. Now, it seems like Lashley and Benjamin are heading to the tag team division, chasing the belts held by Private Party. Looking at how AEW books its tag team division, that's quite a step back. Instead, this trio should have a main event spot, with Lashley chasing after the title. If business is really booming, it's time they are booked as such.
Feature The Women's Division
It's hard to deny that the women's division has more interesting angles than the men's right now in AEW. At one time, Toni Storm's rise to power and fall to Mariah May was an angle beloved by many. It seems like Tony Khan once again failed to give the women the true spotlight they deserve. That has to change. Especially with Mercedes Mone continuing to put on the best matches whenever she steps in the ring. Giving the women more space to shine would go a long way, and featuring them as the main event angle while the men's division retools would not be a bad decision.
