ATHENA vs Mercedes Mone is the biggest women's feud for AEW
AEW's women's division is packed with talent across the board. There are so many stand out performers, it is almost negilgent to try to list them because someone is going to left out. However, any list of top talent signed to All Elite Wrestling must begin with ATHENA and Mercedes Mone. Not only two of the best in the promotion, they are two of the best in the business. If Tony Khan is really booking for the "sickos" then Mone versus ATHENA is the women's feud that must happen.
On December 18, 2024, ATHENA hit the two-year mark as the Ring of Honor Women's World Champion. This has been an unexpected, but amazing run. Not only has she put on some great matches along the way, but she's told an interesting story as well. She remains a captivating attraction for Ring of Honor and its exciting to see her get the spot as the main event against Billie Starkz at Supercard of Honor. This is the time of the "Forever Champion."
But, there's more on the horizon. Mercedes Mone is in the "prime" of her career and riding a wave of momentum. She's 207-days into her run as AEW TBS Champion and 172-days into her tenure as the NJPW STRONG Women's Champion. Mone is one of those performers whose presence, name, and a mere mention draws attention. Doesn't matter if that reaction is positive or negative, attention is paid.
Mone and ATHENA are the biggest names available on the AEW roster. Even though Mariah May and Toni Storm are heading for another big feud for the AEW Women's World Champion, neither of them carry the superstar weight that comes with Mone's name. ATHENA has the respect of the industry and you can see that with how the business responds to her run as champion. She's deserving of a top spot on a card. And that top spot should come against Mone at some point in the future.
AEW All-In is set for the Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on July 12, 2025. Many are pushing for ATHENA to be on this card and in a featured spot. While several of the men's ROH champions continue to get prime television time on AEW shows and PPVs, Athena (and now the Women's Television Champion) are left off, or on the pre-show. Even as fans push back against the booking, Khan continues to keep ATHENA on Ring of Honor, where she has thrived.
ATHENA must be on the All-In card. There's no excuse that should be accepted. The moniker of the "Forever Champion" seems to be a fact at this point and she's becoming a bigger star in wrestling. Pitting her against Mercedes Mone on All-In and making that the main event would capture the attention of wrestling fans and media outlets alike. This is the match that must be made and there are no reasons why Tony Khan should give the fans anything else.
If All Elite Wrestling fans truly support women's wrestling, then the push to book Mercedes Mone versus ATHENA at All-In needs to begin today. There's no reason why this match shouldn't happen and its the match that would truly elevate this women's division.
