WWE fans were in for a shock when the company elected to write Bayley out of her match at WrestleMania 41. She was set to team with Lyra Valkyria to take on Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. Valkyria still has to find a tag team partner and fans should expect the call to be answered by none other than Becky Lynch.

Becky Lynch being the surprise partner for Lyra Valkyria should not surprise anyone. The two women have a history together, and they’ve teamed once in the past when Lynch ventured back to WWE NXT. When Valkyria started her main roster run she was paired closely to Lynch in what seemed to be WWE hoping she’d get the “rub” from the famous wrestler. That transitioned into some success, so it makes sense for WWE to go back to that for WrestleMania.

However, the story does not need to end there. Instead of pairing these women together, WWE should take this moment to help Lynch elevate Valkyria as opponents rather than partners. WrestleMania 41 should be the stage to set them down that path.

Becky Lynch should turn on Lyra Valkyria at WrestleMania

Valkyria and Lynch do not need the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. In fact, putting those titles on them almost further invalidates the titles and doesn’t help the Intercontinental Championship either. Imagine if Lynch comes out as Valkyria’s partner, only to turn on her – setting her sights on the championship she holds. To also get back at Valkyria for taking the NXT Women’s Championship from her in October 2023. This would be the best path for not only the four women in the match, but the entirety of the women’s division across all three brands.

Becky Lynch versus Lyra Valkyria would be an excellent singles feud to put a spotlight on the Intercontinental Championship. Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez can go off to battle other actual teams such as the four that put on an excellent opener at NXT Stand & Deliver. WWE didn’t have to scrap the feud between Bayley and Roxanne Perez, just to get to this situation.

Lynch has been used this way before. Think back to when she returned at SummerSlam. Carmella was sent out as a ruse, just to be embarrassed by Lynch. She’d immediately squash Bianca Belair, crushing her momentum and leaving several fans upset at the matter. Those moments are easily avoidable, but WWE doesn’t seem interested in improving the booking around them.

Becky Lynch’s return will be a WrestleMania moment, one that will generate a lot of buzz and social media engagement. However, if it goes the way everyone expects, with Lynch and Valkyria winning the tag titles, then it is just another example of lazy booking for the women’s division. Especially when this could be used to do so much more for all the women involved and then some.
