Darby Allin versus Will Ospreay will be must-see TV
Will Ospreay and Darby Allin are firmly established as two of AEW's most popular babyfaces and it is just a matter of time before they align against Jon Moxley and the Death Riders. But because we are in Continental Classic season wrestling fans will be treated to this highly anticipated match between the two on this week's AEW Dynamite.
The match between Allin and Ospreay has all the makings of a contender for the 2024 television match of the year for several reasons. The first is the sheer level of in-ring talent that the duo shares. Will Ospreay is widely considered the best in-ring performer in the world and Darby Allin consistently puts his body on the line to ensure the fans get an excellent match every time out. Putting that combination into the ring together is sure to produce twenty minutes of must-see moments that will leave the crowd mesmerized.
The energy that AEW Dynamite crowds have been bringing to shows has been very inconsistent lately. Some are red hot from start to finish and others seem quiet for large portions of the shows. However, no matter the type of crowd that is in attendance for the shows, they are always at their loudest when the music of Will Ospreay, (Swerve Strickland), and Darby Allin hits. Having both of them in the same match is sure to create a raucous atmosphere and it is an undisputed fact that the crowd volume always plays a big part in how well a match is received.
Another surefire reason that the match between Osrpreay and Allin will be excellent is that AEW has built a nice little story into the match in just one week. After Ospreay defeated Claudio Castagnoli last week, Allin saved Ospreay from a post-match beatdown at the hands of Castagnoli. The story continued on AEW Collison where it showed a backstage interaction between Ospreay and Allin, emphasizing Allin's desire to go after Jon Moxley and the Death Riders while showing that Ospreay is focused on himself and his win-loss record after dropping matches at two consecutive pay-per-views. It will be fascinating to see how the difference in Ospreay's me-first agenda versus Allin's AEW-first agenda plays into the match's outcome.
Finally, the match should be excellent because both competitors feel that they have to win this tournament, albeit for very different reasons. That should add a level of intensity to the match that is normally only felt on pay-per-views and will certainly play into their relationship moving forward when they will need to align to ultimately defeat Jon Moxley and the Death Riders.
One of the amazing things about AEW is all the first-time-ever matches it has produced over the past five years. And Will Ospreay versus Darby Allin has the potential to be just as good as any of the others we have been treated to. One thing is for certain, no fan of professional wrestling is going to want to miss this must-see match between two of the best that AEW has to offer.
