There’s a lot of talk about who is “up next” in professional wrestling. There are a lot of young performers who are ready to breakthrough in their respective promotions before the age of 30. While many focus on names like Bron Breakker, Dominik Mysterio, Kyle Fletcher, Kendel Gray, and others, there’s a name in All Elite Wrestling who cannot be ignored. Kevin Knight needs to be on the short list of names of top stars in AEW. But not only is he a star for the future, he’s a star for today.
A few short months ago, Kevin Knight was one of those names for the hardcore sickos. He was performing in major promotions like New Japan Pro Wrestling, MLW, DEFY and others. But he wasn’t seen as someone to consider as a top prospect for the future of a top company.
All that started to change when Knight joined AEW in March. It wasn’t just because he officially signed with that promotion, but it was also because of the story about his rumored try out with WWE. Knight’s fans were taken aback that someone of his ability would have to go through a try out in order to sign with the biggest company in the business. Opinions on WWE’s hiring practices aside, Knight had long proven himself to be worthy of a spot where the lights shine the brightest.
Kevin Knight is a future champion and top star in All Elite Wrestling
Now, the discussion turns to Kevin Knight’s tenure in All Elite Wrestling. He’s been in the company less than a year, but he already stands out as someone who should be a champion at some point in 2025. Not only does AEW have more than enough championships, especially when throwing Ring of Honor into the mix, but Knight is someone who would thrive in such a position.
Yes, being in JetSpeed with Mike Bailey is fun, but Kevin Knight needs to be a top singles performer. AEW’s tag team division isn’t good, and Knight shouldn’t be stashed away in it. Think about some of the matches and angles he could have as a singles star focused on an AEW title. Kevin Knight against the likes of Kyle Fletcher, Kazuchika Okada, Konosuke Takeshita, Bandido, PAC, Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and several others immediately jumps off the page. If AEW is truly the place “where the best wrestle,” then fans deserve to see each of them and probably more than once.
All Elite Wrestling has a stacked roster, there’s no debating that point. It is hard to pick just one performer who stands out as the face of the future. But that is what makes professional wrestling so fun, the future doesn’t have to be on the shoulders of one name. Kevin Knight deserves consideration within that list and he’s already shown that he has the talent to be right there with anyone else.
