Meiko Satomura final match set for April 29, 2025
Retirements seem to be the theme of the day. Sting and Bryan Danielson have walked away from the industry after storied careers. John Cena and Hiroshi Tanahashi have announced their plans, set to retire in 2025 and 2026, respectively. Bill Goldberg is the latest name to state that his time is almost over as well. On the women’s side, Meiko Satomura’s final match has been announced as her career winds down as well.
News broke on November 6 that Satomura’s final match is scheduled for April 29, 2025. This match will mark the end of her thirty-year career which started back in April 1995.
“Meiko Satomura, 30 years of history, comes to an end,” Satomura posted on social media Wednesday evening. “The date of retirement has been decided. I wonder how many more matches I will be able to see from those who supported me and those who I met. I will remain Meiko Satomura until the end.”
Satomura is considered a pioneer in the industry. With a career spanning three generations, she’s appeared in several of the biggest promotions in the world. She’s taken part in matches for WCW, New Japan Pro Wrestling, AAA, DDT Pro Wrestling, Pro-Wrestling: EVE, DEFY, and WWE. During that time, she’s taking on some of the best in the world. She’s competed against legends like Aja Kong, Kana, and Sonoko Kato. Her career also includes several of the top names that fans would recognize from today including Toni Storm, Roxanne Perez, and even Konosuke Takeshita.
Satomura is currently signed to WWE. She held the WWE NXT UK Women’s Championship for 451 days, finally dropping the title to Mandy Rose who pinned Blair Davenport during a three-way match at NXT Worlds Collide in 2022. While she’s still signed with the company, Satomura continues to compete for Japanese promotions like Sendai Girls, Marvelous, and TJPW. Her last WWE match was against Bayley when they competed during WWE’s overseas excursion in Japan.
Father Time is undefeated and professional wrestling is losing some of its greatest performers. This is the time to celebrate individuals as they bring their careers to a close. Meiko Satomura deserves all the praise for what she has achieved and there will never be another performer like the real “Final Boss.”
