WWE Bad Blood came and went with mixed reactions to the show. The opener and closer hit hard, but the middle of the show left fans with a wide range of thoughts. However, after the cameras stopped rolling, there was a moment in which Kevin Owens attacked Cody Rhodes. It was a character turn that occurred without the full might of the WWE production powerhouse, instead relying on the fans to capture and spread the word. Well, it worked, and it is yet another new wrinkle that is working within WWE’s production.

Everyone knew that it was just a matter of time before Owens turned on Rhodes. In the eyes of some, it’s a situation that Rhodes brought on himself. He went from teaming with Owens and Randy Orton to fighting against the Bloodline for months. A battle that Owens has been at the forefront of for years. Just to see Rhodes shun all that to team with Owens’s public enemy number one: Roman Reigns.

Owens’s turn is remarkably like that of Drew McIntyre. McIntyre’s slow descent into one of the top heels on Monday Night Raw is packed with instances in which fans can see McIntyre’s point. In fact, Owens, and McIntyre both spent much of the last few years being tormented by The Bloodline, and their animosity towards anyone in line with that group is sensible. Wanting to pay them back for their crimes in spades makes sense. McIntyre took things too far and is clear that Owens will over time as well.

Seeing this done through backstage footage made the moment more impactful. WWE continues to present the show as more of a sports performance which has been met with rave reviews so far. Doing things differently than the company has done in the past opens the door for more opportunities in an industry where everything was done nearly the same for far too long.

Kevin Owens’s turn on Cody Rhodes was handled to perfection after WWE Bad Blood. It will be interesting to see how the story escalates on the latest episode of WWE SmackDown. Especially when it is coupled with The Rock’s return, who also has his eyes on Rhodes. Plus, one can’t forget Randy Orton lurking in the background as he also has a reason to be upset with the decisions that Rhodes has made. This is professional wrestling storytelling at its finest.
