Cameron Grimes released from WWE contract
Releases continue to hit the wrestling industry, as Cameron Grimes is the latest name to be released by WWE. He took to social media to announce the news Tuesday afternoon.
"I just got off the phone with WWE and unforutnately I have been released from my contract," Grimes said in an emotional video. "Five years ago, the last thing that I was able to tell my father was that I signed with the WWE. I loved working here. I loved working at the WWE. I want to thank everyone that's helped me."
Grimes was a beloved fan favorite, with much of his success coming in NXT. He would win the Million Dollar Championship and hold the NXT North American Championship for 63 days. But when he made his move to the main roster, that momentum came to a halt. Grimes's last match with WWE was on April 12 when he was defeated by Bron Breakker on an episode of SmackDown.
"If you're a fan of mine, I'm going to let you know that there's a fire lit under my ass. All I want to do is work. All I've ever wanted to do is work. This is all I got," Grimes said in his video. "The good news is there ain't going to be no stopping Trevor Lee now, let me tell you that."
WWE released several other wrestlers days ago, including former champion Jinder Mahal, Xia Li, and Von Wagner. Grimes confirmed with fans that this is not the end, as he will make moves to continue working.
"WWE is all I ever wanted to do, but if I have to go somewhere else to show them that they missed out, I guess that's what I got to do."
Grimes had a stellar career before signing with WWE. He compted in several other organizatons including PWG, Impact/TNA, and HOG Wrestling. Along the way he'd pick up top titles including being at two-time X-Division Champion, and putting on a catalog of great matches along the way.
