Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Bayley, and Mercedes Mone deserve big money deals
Contract negotiations can equally be an exciting and stressful part of sports and entertainment. All too often, fans are forced to watch stories about millions and billionaires being unable to come to the table about how much the former is worth for their abilities. The same happens in professional wrestling. 2024 is shaping up to be a big year in contracts, with many individuals’ contracts coming to an end. Recent news broke about the contract status of two members of the Four Horsewomen and when looking at what all four have contributed to the industry, they all deserve massive paydays.
On December 19 and December 21, Fightful Select reported on new contracts for both Charlotte Flair and Bayley. According to the reports, Flair received a “huge money increase” and “one of the highest-paid deals to a woman in WWE history.” Both deals are said to be multi-year deals.
This comes at a time when Becky Lynch is slated to be a free agent in 2024. Lynch is perhaps the most important woman on the roster and has dedicated much of her 2023 to building the women’s division on both the main roster and WWE NXT.
Then, there is Mercedes Mone (formerly known as Sasha Banks). She’s the only one of the four to step outside the company which has led to success in New Japan. As she continued to recover from an injury, there was speculation that she was heading to AEW, but that is seemingly not the case at this time. There has been a lot of debate around the idea of money when it comes to Mone, and it should be clear – Mercedes Mone is worth whatever she’s asking for. She brings a different set of fans to professional wrestling and has the resume of ratings and more to prove that point.
Let one thing stand true, these four women deserve the big paydays that are headed their way. Each one of them has contributed to the industry in their way. They’ve also done so when ingrained with each other on the screen. They have their separate fan bases, but a major cross-section of viewers loves each one of them as individuals for what they’ve achieved.
What’s even more amazing is that these women have so much more to give the industry if they choose. The Four Horsewomen range from 37 to 31 years old. They are either in their athletic prime or heading into it. Professional wrestling has long mistreated women based on their age, and ladies like Mickie James, Meiko Satomura, Mercedes Martinez, and others buck that trend. The Horsewomen could do the same, and even at a bigger level thanks to their massive level of fame.
Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Bayley, and Mercedes Mone are the biggest stars in women’s wrestling today. In many ways, they are the biggest stars in all of wrestling. If each of these women signs big money deals as 2023 ends and into 2024, let it be said that they each deserve it for what they have achieved and will achieve in the industry.
