The 2024 WWE Draft is complete and much of the discourse around the two-night event is the lack of real movement between the rosters. However, there was one move that made a lot of sense and created a strong opportunity in the women’s division. Sending Damage CTRL to Monday Night Raw was the right step to help refresh that division and give this group something different to do. But when looking at this faction, Dakota Kai stands to gain the most because it is her time to step out into a big run of her own.

Damage CTRL is a group made up of four stars. Kairi Sane, Asuka, and Iyo Sky have each been champions in their own right, whether it was in NXT or on the main roster. Even though Kai is a multiple-time tag champion, she’s yet to truly have that singles moment. Her recent heel turn has been a strong run to see what she can do as the mouthpiece of the group. Kai has shown that she can excel in the ring, but the last few months leading into WrestleMania 40 made it clear that she has the character chops that work as well.

This move to Raw came at a point when the group needed something fresh. Sky already dropped the title to Bayley. Asuka and Sane are expected to drop the tag titles to Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill at Backlash. There wasn’t anything else for this faction to achieve on SmackDown. Moving them to Raw gives them a group of new foils to seek out, especially Kai. Think about her and Becky Lynch having a series of matches. That placement would help her stature in the division grow. Heck, any of them could benefit from being placed against Lynch. There are other names in this division that work as well. Shayna Baszler, Zoey Stark, Liv Morgan and others would be intriguing matchups we either haven’t seen or it’s been a while since they’ve done battle.

Damage CTRL is an important faction in the women’s division. It’s rare that a group of women of color are booked together and presented in a strong fashion, like this group was for a brief moment. Moving them to Monday Night Raw creates the opening to give this group a fresh look. This should also be the moment when Dakota Kai steps out to show the world that she’s just as much of a main event talent as her peers.
