Daniel Garcia needs momentum coming out of a feud with MJF
AEW fans have not seen Daniel Garcia since the July 3rd episode of Dynamite when he was taken out of the arena of a stretcher after being attacked by MJF. Left in a pool of his own blood, it was obvious Garcia was going to be written off television for the immediate future.
Now we sit a month and a half after the fact and Garcia is still away from AEW programming. With MJF tied up in a feud with Will Ospreay, it's not hard to understand why there hasn't been a follow-up to this angle yet, but AEW is running out of time.
The waters get a little muddy when you consider Garcia's contract status and the idea that we might never see him on AEW television again. Even if Garcia is leaving for WWE or elsewhere in the near future, AEW can still give fans a one-time follow-up to put a bow on what some were saying was the angle of the year at the time.
The most reasonable reintroduction for Garcia would be to interfere in the match for the American Championship at All In London and cost MJF the match. This immediately fortifies the storyline that Garcia is out for revenge at the soonest possible big event.
The following week on Dynamite the challenge should be laid out by Garcia for some sort of stipulation match on the All Out Pay Per View two weeks after in the windy city. Chicago AEW crowds have been some of the best in the promotion's history, and the event being held there will pay dividends for giving Garcia momentum during and after the match.
The crowd will rally behind a version of Daniel Garcia that we have only seen a handful of times in the past year. After the aforementioned attack by MJF on Garcia, Daddy Magic said "And when that day comes Max, I promise you you're not getting dick dancing Danny Garcia, you're getting red death".
This version of Garcia is easily the better version of his character and should create more momentum than trying to get a sports entertainment gimmick over with AEW fans.
Frankly, I think if we see Garcia return to face MJF, the booking of the match will tell us more about Garcia's contract status than anything else. If he wins and looks like a star against MJF he has definitely re-signed, if he loses he is off to another promotion.
This program's success could silence a lot of doubters of AEW's storytelling, but that is all reliant on the follow-up to MJF nearly leaving Garcia for dead. Garcia must come back as a wrestler with no goofy gimmicks around him and want revenge similar to the style Hangman Adam Page currently wants on Swerve Strickland.
If you want momentum as a young act in AEW, you have to wrestle well between the ropes and have purpose, both of which Garcia can immediately deliver in a return to television. It is time for AEW to stop talking about the future of Daniel Garcia, and make it the now.
